This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

For this role Jodie received bunch of nominations and six awards, including her first Oscar. In my opinion, her role of Nell deserves an Oscar much more than this one or her role in "Silence of the Lambs" and this is far from being her best movie, but it has really strong story and it's worth watching.7/10

I get it, the director was trying to create a compelling story line. But I simply don't buy it. The events depicted in the film violate human decency on a scale that only happens in the movies, the hood, or foreign countries as of now. It's just over the top. Too many people simply would not put up with that kind of behavior. Where I live it's far more likely the perpetrators would be hauled into the parking lot and beaten for sport, not cheered on. You see old white rednecks, the ones everyone seems to be so afraid of these days, have a code. Where I live there are a few things you just don't do. You don't kick another man's dog, you don't run down the bible, and you don't push women around in public. Any of those will get you a country beat down right now, or worse. It would have been far more believable had it been set in a "club" in the hood, a place where women are referred to as bitch and ho, not Miss, Mrs, and Mam. But then it looses it's propaganda value doesn't it?

A young woman is gang-raped in a bar. But charging the perpetrators with rape may not be a good idea because, frankly, the young woman may well have been asking for it. Does dressing and acting provocatively mean that you deserve to get raped? This film addresses the moral issues attached to rape very effectively, and features excellent performances from Kelly McGillis as the District Attorney tasked with pursuing the line most likely to meet with success, and from Oscar-winning Jodie Foster as the victim. This is disturbing stuff, but it is well written and brilliantly performed. It will leave you with considerable food for thought.

Jodie Foster is a woman who gets gang raped at a pinball machine at a bar in this based on a true story movie that won Oscars. While at the first trial for rape, the perpetrators receive a light sentence, for what Foster believes to be because of her character and how she was dressed - the "she shouldn't have been out at night or dressed that way" excuse. She hires Kelly McGillis to charge the men again and it plays out in court. The movie gives different POV's and shows graphic details of the attack several times. Foster gives an outstanding performance. The actors who play the perpetrators are stereotypes however and it does diminish a bit from the overall film. The movie is a definite roller coaster ride and will stay with you afterwards. A sign of a good movie
