I love this movie so much
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
**** May contain strong spoilers ****This is a review made by StoneDraim... and that means that if you want to read a probably different kind of review, keep reading....This is my personal experience, my personal point of view/perspective and my personal opinion... and my opinion is just one of like 7 billions in this world.Big Nothing. What is it? A comedy? A tragedy? I would say black satire and comedy interwoven and imbued with blood... and a septic tank.I have an expression I am using now and then when people ask me about movies: "Everybody dies of an overdose of drugs." Well....why am I writing that one here...? Watch the movie. ;)That is what I have to say about this one.Over to the movie as a product: - The production : Standard American production, all in all. Some glitches and errors here and there... one when Gus is speaking with the police besides Charlie and Josie; two different facial expressions in quick zooming cuts. - The actors : Simon Pegg, David Schwimmer and Alice Eve could all have been better with a great director. - Entertainment : A typical "parody-of-catastrophe-where-everything- goes-bad-for-people-hiding-the-truth". If you are seeking for clichés, look this one out (hmmm...I wonder if the gentleman with thick glasses and diabetes is coming back and have a big part of the story? Well....) - Age : 15. Blood, killings... and one drowning in a septic tank.5,4 out of 10. (The final rate is based most on my own entertainment of the movie. Short elucidation of the rating: 5 Approved. 4 Failed. Lacking in character.)
David Schwimmer and Simon Pegg hit a new low in this supposed black comedy. Alice Eve not only gets to act in this unbelievably contrived film, but confirms that she cannot act. There is so much wrong here, but it starts with a simpleminded script about an extortion scheme gone wrong. Everything about "Big Nothing" is annoying. The script is so bad that what has already been seen is constantly being explained. Along with the horrendous acting, the unnecessary camera effects and headache inducing split screens, characters appear out of nowhere with zero development. You will be living with the fast forward button, if you insist on getting to the end of this abomination. - MERK
Well as my summary tells, movie is really really good actually great in its genre. Its about an exteacher Charlie who gets into a criminal business with Gus an ex con and a killing ''widow'' Josie trying to squizee 200k from reverend pervert dealing with child porn or something. Of course all goes wrong starting with a murder. The movie will provide quite an amount of WTF(what the f**k) moments should make you smile (if not laugh) sometimes. But what really is disturbing is the way they showed us the ending. Have to say that ending, while in rough point was OK, was delivered bad on screen. Didn't get to know what happened to Charlies wife, and we are left thinking ''hey maybe Charlie could have survived''(highly doubtfull) but anyway this movie was a great ''waste'' of time and would deserve clear 8 if it wouldn't be for a crap ending
I watched The Big Nothing, Run Fat Boy Run and Hot Fuzz this week all with Simon Pegg as leads.Hot Fuzz was horrible and this was just a riot. It's dark...it's gruesome and it's funny - without a whole bunch of needless swearing or nonsense shooting. The cast was good, David Schwimmer was perfect as the wimpy guy. A better role than he ever had in Friends.Simon Pegg lost his accent and is pretty decent in this role. It's a trip that has an odd ending. This was also filmed in Isle Of Man, but I don't see where - as it's all exterior scenes in British Columbia.
