Disappointment for a huge fan!
Captivating movie !
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
The film wasn't too bad; in fact, it was pretty decent. I'd say it was on par with the third one. I like the title of this movie "The next karate kid" instead of calling it Part IV or something. I also like the idea that the film focuses on a female character - that was a good idea especially considering the previous three movies focuses on a male character. Not only that, but I also liked that it was Hilary Swank that was chosen to lead the female role, and I don't think anyone else could've done it any better. She was really popular back then. She did a fine role in this film. This is a film that is probably geared towards the female audience I reckon. The first two films were really good. The third and fourth movies were the weak entries, but at the same time, it wasn't too shabby either. I enjoyed all four movies. All four of these karate kid movies were part of my childhood. Yes! I'm also a fan of martial arts, so that makes it even more worthwhile to watch.
i am a big fan of the 1st three, even the 3rd one had its good qualities, but there is nothing good about this movie i can say , i am shocked pat Morita did this movie, the story and acting is laughable , the plot makes no sense , the jade smith one is better than this, I'm sorry to say this is a karate kid movie, thank god they didn't make another, i feel like someone used a crane kick on my head after watching it , if i could give it a zero i would. I am so sorry pat that you did this.
There are two ways to view the next karate kid. You can compare it to the previous 3 karate kid films, or you can take it on it's own. The movie is not as horrible as everyone tries to say it is, but it does not live up to the quality of cinema that the other ones achieved. Hilary Swank's performance is pretty good, especially considering how young and inexperienced she was back then. Pat Moriati is of course great here, there was no doubt or debate about whether he would be good or not. The plot is so so, its not completely original, but it doesn't really fall completely flat. The plot is sweet/cute at times, and is empowering and uplifting at other times. If you are looking for a kinda clichéd, but pretty well acted, borderline sub par fourth installment, then this movie just may be for you. 5/10.
This movie is very bad. First of all the acting is awful. I mean the first 3 movies had cheesy acting and some cheesy moments, but this movie has got to have some of the worst acting in film history. The main character played by Hillary Swank is the worst. her expositions and line delivery is so bad and off that it makes the movie hard to watch. Also the villains are horrible as well. The villains in the 3rd movie were bad too but in this movie they are so over the top and unrealistic that you simply can't take them seriously. The evil teacher in this movie played by Michael Ironside is WAY to over the top. They make him straight up evil. Anyways, the movies plot is lame, the acting sucks, the characters are terrible,and the film is unnecessary and pointless. Don't watch this garbage.
