This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

I love this movie starring the late Brittany Murphy. Little Black Book was a romantic and true movie to watch. I bought the DVD of this movie and I watched it with my family and friends. We all loved it! Some of the movie clips were hilarious to watch. I loved the part in the film where she got nervous and broke the fax machine with her baseball bat. That part was hilarious to watch! This is one of my top favorite movies. The acting was good and this movie had a comedic and funny approach to it. It shows us that life can sometimes be a bit strange but we just go with the flow. I would recommend this movie to anybody who appreciates a bit of reality and a bit of comedy in between.

Stacy Holt (Brittany Murphy) wants to be Diane Sawyer. She gets an associate producer job for daytime talk show Kippie Kann (Kathy Bates). Other AP Barb (Holly Hunter) takes her under her wings. Her boyfriend Derek (Ron Livingston) let slip that he dated supermodel Lulu when they see her on TV. She, Barb and Ira interview Lulu and discover that his ex Joyce (Julianne Nicholson) was desperate to get back with him. In desperation, she digs through his stuff to find his exes. She starts tracking down his ex Dr. Keyes (Rashida Jones) and getting his day-planner with the urging of Barb.I don't find this funny. Stacy is both pathetic and annoying. The problem is that she doesn't have the loveability. Brittany Murphy is usually adorable but here, she is just the Manic Pixie Crazy Girlfriend. I also would rather have a young lifelong girlfriend instead of Holly Hunter. It is sad for this movie to drag 'Working Girl' into this mess.

I went into this movie not expecting an epic (come on!), but at least a halfway decent film to take my mind off things for an hour and a half. And, after wasting that hour and a half on this pathetic excuse for a rom-com, all I can say is: wow. I didn't think it was possible for a movie to be this bad, even after seeing Rumor Has It... (side note- don't see that one either!) I can usually put up with Brittany Murphy- I loved Uptown Girls- but she got on my last nerve. The plot was clumsily thrown together, and for a supposed comedy, I laughed out loud exactly once (at the phone smashing bit- gotta admit, that was hilarious). Even some die-hard fans of this movie admit the ending was one of the worst in romantic comedy history, and as a complete non-fan, it was just appalling. The only part I appreciated even a little bit was the way the writer avoided the trap of having Bean and Stacy get together. But overall, without a doubt one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Little Black Book has a lot of things, there is some romance, some deception and a little comedy added for flavor. However, the movie suffers from a dearth of generally likable characters. The plot is relatively simple. Stacey (Murphy) is trying to find her place in life, and comes to work at a daytime talk show as an associate producer. She is happy with her boyfriend and job. Then one day, an associate, Barb, take an idea that was pitched during a meeting, little black books, and suggests Stacey go through her boyfriends and find out about his ex-girlfriends. Stacey, using the show as a guise, interviews the women, befriends one, and slowly comes to find that her boyfriend is not what he seems and their relationship is not as happy as she thought it was. This all comes to a climax on the talk show, where Barb has set Stacey up, and a confrontation between Stacey, her boyfriend and his ex-girlfriends occurs. The problem of this movie is that most of the characters are not particularly sympathetic. Stacey comes off as neurotic, paranoid and generally dysfunctional. There is no reason to really root for her to succeed. Her boyfriend comes off as a louse. Barb is simply cruel. The only one who is really sympathetic is one of the ex-girlfriends played by Julianne Nicholson. Her character is fleshed out in a way none of the others are.
