Highly Overrated But Still Good
It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Fantastic movie about life, with some of the best acting I have ever seen.
A play. inspiring a real good script. and great cast. tension. a family crisis and the different faces of truth. not the last, a trip across great playwriters work. because it reminds Shakkespeare and Tchekov and Tennesee Williams, the American fields and the force of acting from an unique cast. because it seems be a version of King Lear and one of versions of Uncle Vanya. but, sure, it is more. a film about deep solitude and refuges. about freedom. and about choices. about selfishness and appearences. and about the family. as axis of storms, secrets and hard words. so, an impressive film. seductive for traces of well known plays. and for fine art to recreate a world so familiar.
I love Meryl, and this is the only movie I have seen her in where by the end of the movie her character has no redeeming quality. Shame on the director for misusing such an incredible group of actors. I am having a hard time understanding why all the nods. Are we asking for more movies this troublesome and despicable? Not I! I also felt it was rather insulting to the American Family. This is NOT like anyone I know. Don't waste your brain space watching this hopeless mess of a movie!
wasted cast for such a bore. too neurotic a mother-daughter relationship worthless of showing. vulgar language and shouted insults are totally unnecessary and irritating. highly disengaging and unattractive. overall it is slower than a tortoise, dropping attention instead of building momentum.it must have been a pretty good magnet to work with miss Meryl, especially for the Brits (i.e. Ewan Mcgregor and Benedict Cumberbatch), otherwise they should have stayed home doing some gardening.overall, this is another movie with dark blue lighting, a lot of car rides only because gas is cheap and plenty of door slamming and furniture banging. skip it and you will be just fine.
