Lack of good storyline.

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

A newly wed man who believes he's just gotten hitched to the perfect woman encounters another lady on his honeymoon. The Heartbreak Kid (2007) is one of those films that some people will like and some won't like personally i'm on the middle i liked the performances from Ben Stiller, Jerry Stiller, Michelle Monaghan, Malin Akerman, Rob Corddry and Danny McBride and they are in my opinion some good actors that can do both comedy and drama and anything that you want and that's the good thing. Now when the movie tries to be funny? It's kinda of a letdown for example Akerman pee on Stiller's back and seeing her privates isn't that funny to be honest or some really unsexy sex scenes. If you can deal with the weird humor and some weird moments in general you might actually like this movie it was fun mostly cause of the actors. (7.5/10)

It's difficult to not compare The Heartbreak Kid to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and it doesn't do well in that comparison. The latter outperforms the former in nearly every possible way. Ben Stiller isn't at his funniest here, but he does manage to do OK in a few funny moments. Michelle Monaghan was the bright spot for me, she is a great young actress and handles romantic comedies just as well as she does any other genre of movie.Ultimately, The Heartbreak Kid just isn't as funny as it should have been. There were only a few laugh out loud scenes, and there were long stretches of the movie that were just boring. The story was as predictable as possible, and none of the actors really seemed to be trying that hard. Rob Corddry, Carlos Mencia, Jerry Stiller, Danny McBride...they're all just doing the exact same bits that you've seen them do before. I have to admit that Mencia was kinda funny, though. And as far as the R rating goes, it doesn't really add much to the comedy. There's some nudity, sex, and cursing, but none of that makes the movie any funnier/better. Sure, I'm not gonna complain about seeing Malin Akerman's goods, but if that's your reason for seeing this movie, you'd do better to track down her scenes from Entourage. You're guaranteed to have a better time watching those.

A tip for the producers... people who like to laugh don't normally consider watching painful scenes as something conducive to humor. :-)I personally thought that her getting sunburned was an unnecessary part to the whole story and even the inclusion of "another woman" in the whole thing... it would have been really funny on its own to just watch his whole interaction with Lila with him not knowing her well enough and all the quirks that go along with that. Bringing the other girl into the scene and then even the girl at the end of the movie made it more into a "drama" than a comedy and people were at the edge of their seat hoping he would not get caught and squirming when he did and the girls were heartbroken. Not to mention the whole jelly fish scene... ewwww... gross! I literally wanted to leave the theater gagging when I saw that one with that ugly horrible clingy thing hanging from his back knowing how painful it must've been... I don't think anyone hated Ben Stiller's character THAT much to warrant something like that. Sorry...not impressed.

Ben Stiller, Michelle Monaghan, Malin Akerman and Jerry Stiller star in this 2007 comedy remake of the 1972 film. Stiller (Zoolander) plays bachelor, Eddie who hasn't found the right woman yet. Ackerman (Couples Retreat) plays Lila, an attractive woman he soon meets and dates. After 6 weeks, Eddie decides to marry her and they go to Mexico for their honeymoon. Soon, Eddie learns he may have made a mistake when Lila is not whom he expected. Eddie secretly finds romance with another woman, Miranda (Monaghan) who eventually learns he's married. The Farrelly Brothers directed this and previously worked with Stiller in "There's Something About Mary." Stiller's father, Jerry (The King of Queens) naturally plays his on screen father, Doc and Danny McBride (Pineapple Express), Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead) & Polly Holliday (Gremlins) also appear. This is a good comedy with a great cast I recommend.
