Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

The nineties brought new life to the slasher sub-genre, how many of these films were made around this time, they were about ten a penny and none of them carried any weighty emphasis, you could be forgiven for mistaking one for another. Four teenagers, a reason, and a murdering fisherman (really a fisherman of all things?) I guess so considering the film's location is a fishing village. The plot is painfully simple and follows the same format as any slasher film, need I have to recite this?Typical teenage fare when it came to the acting, not what you'd call particularly great..., everyone's favourite eye candy from the nineties was there, Sarah Michelle Gellar, as was Leonard from The Big Bang Theory, playing the weedy Max (Johnny Galecki).Indeed there are a number of jump scares but other than that the film wasn't the slightest bit scary, a better way to describe it would be "lame". If you like slasher movies I suppose there's something in it for you, but if you're not a fan of them, you might struggle to sit through this film, it may just annoy you instead.

I still remember this flick because a colleague back them his music was used in this flick with 2 Wicky by Hooverphonic. But not only that. I'm a big horror geek and I can tell you that after the slasher era horror was death and was even not done for a while. Nobody was interested anymore in the genre and after 1987 it was all bad and laughable what came out of the genre. But 1996 did put horror back on the number one list with Scream. The only problem was the fact that it all was made for the teens walking around. Scream did offer some gory moments but this flick here clocking in on the success of the new breed of horror is low on that part. No more nudity and extreme gore or point of view shots or first person shots. Still, it was a big success due the thespians in it. Girls were screaming due the six pack shown by Ryan Phillippe and guys were in love with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar. The story itself was rather strong because it was not a whodunit but more a who we just killed script. All characters did fit together and let that be why this flick do works. Of course the older horror buffs did hate the new breed of horror. Now that I watched it again almost 20 years later I can understand the discussion being made then. It's indeed low on horror but it did make people scream for so many reasons. And I must also say that it isn't outdated for a 20 year old flick. It's not that perfect but still watchable. Together with Scream it created and started the teen horror that also died of course but the trend was set, horror was back a must done in Hollywood and look nowadays, it still is a must to make them. It also spawned an I Know franchise as did Scream. But we all know what sequels are...Gore 0/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5

I know what you did last night (1997) is a somewhat entertaining teenage slasher film that follows the story of 4 different teenagers and how they accidentally hit a man on the road, kill him, and because they don't think the cops will believe them, they dump his body in the water. They swear never ever speak of it again, and just move on with their lives. Well, first of all let me just say that I loved Jennifer Love Hewitt in this film, I thought she really fit her role well. I also really loved, probably loved more than all of the characters and actors playing them, was Sarah Michelle Gellar. Sarah Michelle Gellar really did do a great job portraying her role in the film. Then, there's Ryan Phillipe, who I disliked the most of all the actors and characters in the movie, he just was not the correct choice for the role, and basically all he did was just overact and be wayyyyy over the top, it didn't work for him. The plot is interesting and intriguing, at least to me it is. The scare factor is there at certain times in the film, but some "jump scares" were just dull and boring. But the action and the chase scene were high octain, fun and cool to see, and entertaining. So overall I'll give it a 6/10.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997): Dir: Jim Gillespie / Cast: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Anne Heche: We have all heard the term regarding our sins finding us out. Here is a horror film about a watchful presence out to advocate that term. It regards four high school graduates who are out racing and drinking until they hit someone. They dump the body to avoid a manslaughter charge then make a pact for secrecy. A year later they all receive notes that say, "I know what you did last summer." Jennifer Love Hewitt discovers a body in the trunk of her car. Sarah Michelle Gellar wakes up with her locks sheared. Ryan Phillippe is nearly hit by a car. This leaves Freddie Prinze Jr. to take the blame. Anne Heche makes an appearance as a nut case. This is generally an effective horror film with an interesting theme but unfortunately the killer is someone who had no previous screen time. The third act boils down to the standard chase and slash with that ever familiar cheat ending that opens a sequel but director Jim Gillespie presents an eerie atmosphere that works in its favor. We can understand the dilemma the characters face even if our circumstances are greatly different. We have all tried to hide something at some point. The past can haunt us like a hangover on the dawn of a heavy drinking night. Score: 8 / 10
