When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Unlike many of the critics when it was first released, I have a lot of time for this twisted little movie. As with the best horror movies it affects you more because you can't get out of your mind that it just could happen. There is no supernatural aspect to shield you from reality.I won't give too much away because it does have some unexpected plot twists. Suffice to say the story is about a group of backpackers from Britain, Europe, the U.S. and Australia that becomes stranded after a bus accident in a remote area in Brazil. They receive descending degrees of helpfulness from the locals until they realise that they should have caught the plane instead. This definitely isn't a movie the Brazilian Tourist Board would want you to take seriously in the year of the Rio Olympics; apparently Brazilians really didn't like it at all when it was released 10 years ago, and it was boycotted. They felt about it the way Australia's Tourism people probably felt about "Wolf Creek". I know people who walked out of that one, although it wasn't actually boycotted."Turistas" is particularly well made, and shot on location with a very believable group of actors playing the likable and adventurous tourists. The characters are well-defined with Desmond Askew just about stealing the show as Finn, the scrappy and irrepressible little Englishman. Josh Duhamel plays Alex, a reluctant American traveller who has come along to keep his sister Bea and her friend out of trouble as they enter the sort of places strangers would be wise to avoid.Melissa George makes an impact as Australian surfer girl Pru. As an Aussie I must admit to a certain amount of national pride as she flitted around in a bikini revealing a body that is a tribute to an active, outdoor Australian lifestyle. You could argue that the film gets a little predictable towards the end, but I found the whole thing was so revved up by that point that you hardly noticed. As far as Brazil's image is concerned, I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't take the actual premise behind the story too seriously, but maybe it's a reminder that double checking travel plans anywhere you go might be a smart idea - if the film has a message it's no more perverse than that.Anyway, international politics aside, I think you do get your money's worth with this travel package.

I didn't check reviews before watching this film. Glad I didn't. It's much better than the 5.3 rating IMDb lists. Surprisingly good, actually. The beginning of the film had me wondering if it was going to be a dud, but it soon took off into a pretty good thriller/horror film. The plot kind of winds you along in a great way. You have that uneasy feeling where you want to tell the people 'I don't think I'd be doing that if I was in your shoes!'. Which, I guess means they succeeded at having you care about the characters. The story was quite creepy and well done. Much of the bloody stuff that could have easily been overdone wasn't; it was done just right. There was enough, but not too much. Most of the creepy factor grows in your own mind as the tale unwinds. I think this is another area where this film succeeds very well; like the great movies of old, it shows you enough but also leaves enough to your imagination to make it much scarier. My husband likes scary movies, but I really hate 'slasher flicks' and prefer psychological thrillers, so finding one that works for both us is challenging sometimes. This one scored high for both of us. Much better than the IMDb rating leads you to think. Don't let the rating, or the first 15 minutes fool you!

After their bus crashes while touring in Brazil, a group of young adults find themselves in a world of misery...Not ever likely to be watched by members of the Brazilian Tourist Board, Turistas (AKA: Paradise Lost) is a whole mixed bag of a movie. Narratively it has been done before, a bunch of pretty types end up coming face to face with criminals and psychopaths in a land they don't know and barely understand. The build up to the horror elements is slow, and for some horror fans it takes too long. Yet conversely it's good that the makers have afforded time for the characterisations to build, allowing for some humour, some drama and an insight into a multi national group dynamic. You may not much care what happens to them, but at least you know them!Actually filmed on location in Brazil, there's a lot of mother nature's natural beauty (and her tough terrain at times) on show, all neatly photographed by Enrique Chediak (28 Weeks Later/127 Hours). However, the trump card is the underwater sequences, which are superbly put together, including a thrilling extended chase sequence that lifts the film out of horror/thriller averageville. There's messages in the mix that valiantly try to make a point, but they get lost as things go a bit cuckoo. Yet there's enough good craft on show, and a horror sequence guaranteed to make you squirm, to make this worth a viewing. It is a good bit better than what some of the hate poured on it suggests, though the caveat is that horror fans should know it only gets into horror territory late in the day. 6/10

I thought this was a very interesting movie.I loved the way the movie was set out and how Kiko was luring the tourists into his uncles death trap but then decides they are good people and tries to get them to leave before his uncle arrives. There wasn't too much gore but just enough for a movie like this. I also liked the ending as it was a happy one for those who survived the ordeal as they were on their way back home - it's good to know that they all didn't die and some came back alive. It reminded me of 'Human Centipede' as the tourists were trying to get away from a mad surgeon just like the 2 girls in the Human Centipede. After reading the reviews on IMDb I thought it would be a really bad movie but it wasn't and I enjoyed it and would recommend it.
