In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

The movie gets beneath the layers of thick we've all covered ourselves with as we move through life. It simply unravels how we could all potentially mess ourselves up if we don't occasionally draw back to basics and reset entirely. Take of this cloak of who we might be someday versus who we are!The movie begins with a teenage boy who has suicidal thoughts and in the attempt of helping himself, insists on being checked into a psychiatric ward. As the movie progresses, so many thoughts come to mind: Aren't we all just layering ourselves with expectations that sometimes make us feel stuck and we can't move? Like a million pretty sweaters under a fancy looking leather jacket but, at the inflexibility to bend to tie your shoelaces. How many of us go back to basics to just engage with things that basically make us who we are by connecting with our senses- sounds, visual creativity, touch, taste and smells. Everything that actually screams existence and just being. Most of us are just so wound up in our heads that we wrap up this beautiful mind with just thoughts over thoughts limiting it from evolving or growing or allowing it to function as its holistic self. This movie is made like as if it were really happening right there in front of you. I recommend everyone watch it.For those wondering am I messed up? - you'd find your answers. And finally, the movie talks about giving and being there for another. There's nothing more powerful and fulfilling than making a difference in someone else's life. While this review is my first and I've tried to focus on the heart of the movie more than the actual storyline here. My hope is you watch it and let the story unravel the way it speaks to you.

This is absolutely not how the hospital works. They would NEVER EVER EVER put teens with adults EVER if the teen floor is closed they transfer you to a different hospital most ERS dont even have a adolescent phyc ward. so they do whats called a bed search in the mean time you stay in the ER. if they cant transfer you (Never happens) but lets say they cant than you are put with the little kids if the teen floor is closed. ive been to the mental hospital quit a few times as a teen. also the minute you say your suicidal you are admitted especial as a minor you would not need to convene the doctor. you would be placed on a 5150 hold 3day hold once the hold expires they can put you on another 5150 then a 5250 7 day hold then a 30day so total time they can keep you is 1.5 months most of the time you spend 5-7 days in the hospital. i just couldnt enjoy this movie with so many inaccuracy

I found this because it is an Emma Roberts, and to me it was, as with most of her stuff, worth finding. That definitely includes Nerve (2016), about kids playing an internet dare game. It's A Kind Of Funny Story is effective teens with problems re mental health. I have no idea how the fee paying USA system deals with the full range of that, but the UK has been underfunding this sector for some time so the National Health Service and education services are of limited help. This is a fun story that mostly manages to be sympathetic. Cuckoo's Nest seemed to set a precedent for including patients going AWOL and I wonder how those are intended to be understood by those who consider mental patients as dangerous? That is the aspect of the story that I personally would prefer to be other, to me it spoils the sympathetic view.My experience of mental health support is that it can help some, while being retrograde for many others. This exploration of those it can help feels useful for considering the wider situation. I consider this story to be filmic literature rather than a gripping yarn.

The first I watched this film I thought it was amazing and I gave it a 10/10. However, when I watched it again I'd give it a 5/6. I think the extent to how much you enjoy this film depends on how you're feeling. When I first watched this film I was quite down, therefore this film really made me realise a lot of stuff. Whereas, now I'm watching this film with a completely different mindset. The main character, Craig... He represents a lot of people and a lot of people can relate to him in a lot of different ways. You can also relate to his friends and family throughout the film as well. It's a good film with a good meaning behind it.I wouldn't rate it higher because after seeing it again... I think it's good but not that good. I get what the film is trying to say and it all makes sense... But that's it. It's not exactly life changing, in saying that the first time I saw it I would have said the film was life changing...I'd recommend this film... It puts your life into perspective to some extent.
