If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

101 things I learned from Red Eye (2005) - Cynthia does not really like to move provisions from one room to the next. If you want someone dead, make sure to contemplate the most incredibly difficult blueprint on your next journey around the world in 80 days insofar as to make sure to fill it up with the lamest plot devices ever. Bombs live underwater. 11 year old girls riding alone in planes make exceedingly good detectives. Rachel is the most baddass loner loser ever! Windshields stop bullets at a very close range. Cars vs guns , cars win every single time! If you are a baddass hit-man or whatever, cute milf scarfs go well with pen holes in the throat. Cillian Murphy, although an incredibly gifted thespian, suffers from stumbling a lot. In Terminator Arnold the robot takes leave to repair his broken robot parts, however Cillian can lumber about bearing moribund wounds whilst trying to seek petty revenge in a suburban home with the cops on the way. Cynthia had a good night save for the incredibly bad movie she just happened to accidentally be in.

A B-movie Wes Craven thriller is the type of movie that was frequent around the mid-2000's and Red Eye is basically the quintessential version of that. It's far from perfect but an entertaining thriller with some slasher/horror moments towards the end of the film rounded out one tense film. Starring the always creepy but brilliant Cillian Murphy and one of Hollywood's sweetheart's Rachel McAdams, Red Eye is the kind of tightly strung thrillers that you see randomly appear on Netflix and wonder why you've never heard of it, only it's directed by a horror legend and stars two award caliber actors. It's a great premise as Murphy and McAdams sit next to each other on the plane and one knows more about the other than they choose to let on. Threats, murder plots, and plenty of shady phone calls ensue as the 2005 film does its best to thrill and entertain for 80 minutes.6.9/10

Just got round to watching this today after buying the DVD second hand from Cex a few years back, the concept & name Wes Craven (RIP) caught my eye. So I bought this film despite it being a thriller & not a horror. Though never got round to watching despite it being on my DVD shelf.Well after getting round to watching, I can say this is a pretty decent epic thriller of a film! It's got a unique concept. It's fast paced, get's to the point & doesn't make any balls about it, it's also a short film too 1hr 13mins (73mins. This is what makes it great along with the edge of your seat tension & suspense!Although for a 12+ it lacked gore & hard language it was still a great thriller with a great story-line! I recommend you watch!8/10

Red Eye (2005): Dir: Wes Craven / Cast: Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy, Brian Cox, Jayma Mays, Colby Donaldson: Wes Craven's second release of 2005, and somewhat better than his werewolf disappointment Cursed. Rachel McAdams works at an airline where she is boarding a plane home to Miami but she keeps encountering a seemingly charming Cillian Murphy. On board she learns that Murphy is not that charming and that her father will be murdered if she doesn't agree to make a phone call that will prevail the assassination of a wealthy businessman. While fairly predictable the action is tense thanks to director Wes Craven who works here without the gore effects. This is not quite up there with previous films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Last House on the Left but it is an ambitious attempt to skirt outside expectations. McAdams delivers a fantastic performance as she struggles to prevent two murders as well as survive herself. Murphy is both charming and sinister. Obviously they will clash in the third act where conventions set in. Supporting roles are unfortunately flat but Brian Cox appears as McAdams's father. Colby Donaldson plays the head secret service agent and that is about the extent of it. Theme regards holding strong when pressured by all sides. For Craven this is a step beyond Cursed and forward to more alarming suspense to come. Score: 7 / 10
