The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Scenes of a Sexual Nature has the makings of a lovely British drama - a more subtle and less schmaltzy version of Love Actually, maybe. Indeed, it has a cast as strong as that of Love Actually - even if less filled with stars - and a wittier, more intelligent script. The terrific writing and wonderful chemistry between the actors (who include Ewan McGregor alongside slightly-lesser-known character actors like Mark Strong, Tom Hardy, Catherine Tate, Eileen Atkins, Andrew Lincoln, Gina McKee and Benjamin Whitrow) make almost every scene a pleasure; whatever the movie has, works.Unfortunately, it just has too little. There's some hint of a connection between the various stories once or twice, but it feels forced, and there's no real thematic connection either; and because stylistically it's completely plain and simple, there's no stylistic connection either (the kind that works well in Jim Jarmusch films). Which makes the whole movie little more than a series of short skits, most of which don't have any satisfying ending or real message or theme, leaving the viewer unsatisfied and a little bit hollow. There's just no real movie here. It's a decent watch and has some good scenes, but in the end it's more frustrating than it is enjoyable.

Preface ~ the word spoilers is tossed around, in the case of this movie you can not spoil the dialog with a description of the events. This is a dialog driven movie and therefore it would be near impossible the watchers experience by describing certain interactions. ~ fauqurIn times such as these where sex is both taboo and the most common marketing tool known to advertising we need more movies of this type. It is a satirical and realistic look at love and sex in our current world state. This film is not one of flashy special effects or deep metaphorical cinematography. The message is in the dialog and is only hidden if you can't read body language or infer for yourself the intended message of the script and actors. This examines all generations and all lifestyles... to a point, but in general it covers the basics. Watch for the re-occurring characters that bring comic relief to each story. I would have to re-watch it but I believe the Actress currently playing Martha Jones on Dr Who is in one of the best scenes in the movie. ~Spoiler~ After enduring a breakup she is approached by a random bloke in the park who tries to comfort her, while not so discreetly attempting to also bang her in the park. The negative reviews no doubt came from people who thought the title meant they were in for adult soft core. This is a social commentary and should be viewed as such.If you are able to put your sex drive in the back seat and take an honest look at sex and love in relation to lifestyle, generation, and social upbringing you will enjoy this fine piece of cinema.I mean if you read the trivia, the actors will all willing to work for minimum and agreed to only receive additional compensation with future sales... I think that proves how much they believed in the film... you can at least give it a shot

If you are a fan of Hampstead Heath (of the wholesome variety) then this is a great film. It features lots of different areas of the Heath and is very affectionately done. The Heath is the star of the film and is showing her age beautifully. Unlike Notting Hill, the film is faithful to the Heath and shows it as it really is. Pleasingly it didn't feature my absolute favourite bit of the Heath, which nobody knows about, and I am certainly not about to mention here.Alternatively, if you are a fan of good scripts, with every line worth savouring, then you will you enjoy this. If you are looking for a film about sex then this is not your film. Sorry!

I've seen this movie recently in the Prince Charles Cinema in London when I was visiting the place during a City Trip. I didn't know which movie was playing and the I never heard of this movie. So without any idea what the movie was about, I sit back and enjoyed the movie. The first thing I noticed was the high amount of 'feel good movie'. Everything is sunny, the grass is always very green and everybody is smiling. The plot isn't very spectacular, just some people who fell in love, are in love or needs love. But it's the humor what makes it special. Every character is interesting and never bores. Everyone can recognize himself in some sort of way in one of the characters. When the movie ends, you leave with a smile. That's for sure!
