It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

Produced by Netflix, a stand-up routine of the legendary Dave Chappelle, recorded live at the Hollywood Palladium in 2016. Topics include OJ Simpson and Bill Cosby. Brilliant - Dave Chappelle is back and as good as ever. At his peak, in the early 2000s, Dave Chappelle was the funniest man on the planet. His brand of irreverent musings, largely on racial matters, was screamingly funny. After a long break, he's back, and it's as if he never left. Clever, funny and delivered in his hilarious over-the-top manner.

I've never seen any of hisr other work so I have nothing to compare this with... and I only watched this because I read that it was so spectacularly bad, I wanted to see for myself. She could have been forgiven for his politics if only he was creative and funny. Ben Elton is a good example of this. He's fanatically left- wing AND he makes me laugh. Also - he doesn't hector and insult everyone who disagrees with him.

It has been 10 years since Dave Chappelle has done a show in L.A. This was filmed in the Hollywood Palladium. He mentions the recent death of Garry Shandling placing the show in March 2016. He is funny, insightful, original, and edgy. The show takes on transgender, disenfranchised politics, O.J., and most of all Bill Crosby. Each one is tackled with a special side spin. The gay jokes are almost from an earlier era. I wonder if he's joking about the jokes or serious about the joking. The O.J. stuff is probably the easiest to digest and the most fun. The Bill Crosby through-line is probably the most personal. It is the conflicted musing of a younger man about his fallen hero. He also has some sly fun about Key & Peele. Chappelle is always smart and one hopes to glimpse a part of that brilliance through his work. A general comment about Netflix doing these standup shows. It would be more compelling to have the shows be more up to the minute although this one and 'Deep in the Heart of Texas' are most compelling for Chappelle.

You owe it to yourself to watch this if you are a fan of Dave Chappelle or comedy in general. Really funny. Ignore any negative comments. I don't understand how you could possibly complain about anything. Stop comparing him to other people. He picked up exactly where he left off. go watch it!
