I loved this movie. The acting was on point and the story was beautiful, inspiring, and thought-provoking, without being over done. It's a great movie. The storyline was written to intrigue and the timing of each set of events unfolds in a natural way...In a way that allows the viewer to sort of "get lost" in the movie. You forget your watching a movie as you become immersed in the lives of the characters as they venture toward realistic challenges. I never forgot this film, and although it may have not been a blockbuster hit, it's one of those rare gems that touch a certain amount of movie-goers who seek entertaining films that offer something mentally stimulating. Even though this work is purely an artistic spin on a Christian themed idea, it's overall message is truth.

A movie that helps you major on the majors which are love and community. Joshua (Jesus in Hebrew - really Yeshua)is just that; a Christ figure ( or maybe even Christ himself) who comes to a small town and brings healing, love, and community. He helps the black Baptists build a church; carves a Peter statue for the Catholics and helps the Pharisaical and hypocritical priest find freedom from his fears and another priest his true calling. He also, helps a "faith healer" learn what real healing is and that he does not need to resort to manipulative tactics. It's a feel good movie and one that is good to watch now and again. It's not that the law doesn't matter ( the hypocritical priest's view) or that it's wrong to have a revival meeting ( the faith healer); even the bureaucratic Roman catholic church has a place; it's just that these are all peripherals and not the center. Thee center is Christ and Loving God and your neighbor as yourself and even the resurrection hope.

This movie has a very beautiful story about how people can live. Sort of represents a messiah of today, instead of showing the "superman" vision of a messiah, that does everything by himself and kicks bad guys's butts it shows a person seemingly like all of us but that's not afraid of helping others or doing things without being rewarded. This movie also tells us that God/faith isn't about sins and getting people being punished for them, but about love and helping each other. Everything in the movie is based on the love, but not the one we see in novels or love movies, but the non-egoistic love. Finally, the overall movie is great as for me, definitely one of the best I've seen, and at the end it leaves a strange emotion inside, that makes you wanna help others.

Now here is an honest-to-goodness Christian movie, based on the best-selling book in the mid '90s by Fr. Joseph Girzone. This parable, I would think, would be a lot more effective evangelizing film than The Passion Of The Christ, only because this is so much more pleasant to watch. But it is no watered-down version, either. While Mel Gibson's film shows Christ's love in the incredibly- painful sacrifice he made, this movie shows the nature of His love in ordinary, everyday life with ordinary people. This is a not a Second Coming story, rather just what Jesus might be like if he re-appeared and mingled with human beings today, in this case in a small southern town in the United States. Here, "Joshua" (Tony Goldwyn) is pictured helping a diverse group of townspeople, ministering to them individually and helping them to come together as a community. He isn't arrogant or pushy about it; he just leads by example. A sub-plot involves his influence with two local priests: an older skeptical pharisee-like cleric (F. Murray Abraham) and his younger and personable assistant (Kurt Fuller). It's nicely done, with good production values and some solid acting. It's not too heavy-handed for the unbelievers while at the same inspiring to believers. As one of the latter, this movie just made me feel good all the way through. This kind of movie isn't just unusual.....it's downright rare.
