Highly Overrated But Still Good
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
I'm a huge fan of Settlers of Catan. Been playing since about 2004, own and play most expansions. I'm also a big Joss Whedon fan, which means I have some exposure to great performances by both of these actors. All that to say, I didn't hesitate to purchase and watch this movie. This short seems to be directed by someone with severe ADHD, switching from style to style constantly. At one point the camera work was so distracting that I almost stopped watching. I willed myself through, but can say now that was the wrong choice. The characters were completely unrelatable and the acting too over-the-top in their mood swings. Eventually I just wanted it to end so that I could say that I finished it. So that I knew I didn't miss some redeeming quality. The redemption sadly never came.In short: do yourself a favor and skip this one.
