If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The multistarrer with Arya and Madhavan playing the lead has the typical makings of a Lingusamy film. The casting of Madhavan and Arya was good, but their acting skills have not been put to much use. Although the film starts on an interesting note it soon takes a very predictable story-line. The director has also included an equal number of songs for both the lead pairs :Arya- Amala and Madhavan-Sameera in order to give them equal weight- age. As the film moves on the action sequences become a bit boring but the good editing and camera work captures our interest back. Released on a festive season the film gives the people that mood and surely wouldn't be that bad an outing for anyone.

Vettai film is all about two brothers Madhavan as Thirumurthy and Arya as Gurumurthy.Like Jekyll and Hyde and two sides of a coin Guru and Thiru have diametrically opposite personalities. Thiru happens to be dull headed and is a bit of scaredy cat, whereas Guru is a Ruf & Tuf and smart. The movie is about how the brothers fare in their life after the death of their father who happens to be a police officer . There is also a running gag that both of them being sons of a policemen have policemen's blood running in them.Pluses of the movie ==>Madhavan and Arya's screen presence is amazing. ==>As usual Lingusamy has paced the movie well. ==>Sameera Reddy looked natural even though she is not a local. Amala paul played the role of eye candy to perfection. ==>The script writers / dialogue writers have done a commendable job to keep the audiences interested even though the movie's story lacked substance. ==>The baddie sports a smart clean shaven look and performed well, and is a promising talent. ==>Did not feature any fart jokes unlike nanbanMinuses of the movie ==>The songs were terrible. The less said about the lyrics the better. This has been a typical trend in recent tamil movie.Only movie that came close to breaking this unsavoury streak was vaagai Sooda Vaa ==>Typical Kollywood, run of the mill movie. ==>This is the gazillionth film to portray an American fiancée as a dufus and complete moron.StoryThe movie starts with the Madhavan flying a kite along with other boys when another boy intentionally cuts his line When Madhavan confronts the aggressor he gets beaten and shooed away. Madhavan high-tails from the spot . He returns to the spot with his younger brother Arya who picks up a fight with the aggressor. The protagonist's father happens to catch Arya with another boy rolling in the sand and he takes both home and flogs Arya . Though Arya remains unperturbed , Madhavan weeps and feels guilty that he is the reason why Arya got flogged by their father. This scene sets the premise to rest of the film.Arya's father dies when the boys reach the age of twenty something and Madhavan gets coaxed by Arya to join the police force . Whenever Madhavan gets into a tight situation with the baddies he calls up Arya and he takes care of them. This drama continues for sometime and Madhavan gains a reputation of being a no nonsense ,bad ass but kicking police officer.Unfortunately the bad guys find out the truth about Madhavan that he is actually a sheep in wolves clothing. The rowdie elements waste no time and make short work of Madhavan. When Madhavan starts recovering from the serious injuries ,Arya reveals the real reason as to why he made Madhavan join the force. He wanted Madhavan to stop being a scaredy cat and stand up to the challenges he faces in the life . He further goes on to say that he cannot continue giving a long rope to Madhavan and asks him shed his fears and become a responsible police officer. The rest of the movie is about how Madhavan KO's the bad guys.End of storyConclusion Watch the film if you want to have a few laughs or you happen to be a Madhavan (or) Arya's fan. You can also watch the movie if you want to catch a glimpse of Amala Paul who offers plenty of fan service and seems to determined to change her demure image from Myna.

After the success of Paiyaa, Lingusamy's Vettai was eagerly anticipated especially with Arya and Madhavan in the leads. Vettai is about a cowardly police SI, Thiru (Madhavan) being posted to Toothukudi where the cops are powerless to uphold law and order. Thiru enlists the help of his younger brother, Guru (Arya) to help him fight the criminals and the praises are showered on Thiru. When Thiru seizes the lorries belonging to Annachi (Ashutosh Rana) with the help of Guru, it ignites a battle between the dreaded gangster and the cowardly cop.Meanwhile, there is Vasanthi (Sameera Reddy) who hates Guru after some unpleasant encounters. Vasanthi then gets married to Thiru and there is a cute romantic track between Vasanthi's sister, Jayanthi (Amala Paul) and Guru. The first half of the movie is laced with comedy sequences while the second half onwards, it shifts to a racy action-thriller mode. Madhavan, back into action-oriented roles after a long time impresses. He shifts from a cowardly character to a rough cop with finesse. Arya, undoubtedly is the star of the film. His comic antics remind u of Boss from Boss Engira Bhaskaran. Sameera Reddy as the loud-mouthed Vasanthi is excellent while Amala Paul shines in a different avatar this time out. Ashutosh Rana as Annachi is just impressive in his Tamil debut. He reacts with aplomb and fights well too. Thambi Ramaiah and Nasser provide funny moments in the police station as Thiru's colleague and superior respectively. Lookout for special appearances by Raju Sundaram, art director Rajeevan and Lingusamy himself. The technical strength of the film is surely the camera-work of Nirav Shah. Be it the songs or the action sequences, all of it were brilliantly shot. Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs are good with Thaiya Thakka and Katti Pudi stand out. The BGM is good and apt. Stunts by Silva is impressive while Anthony's editing maintains the pace of the film at a reasonable level.Madhavan got his action avatar in Lingusamy's Run which was a massive hit and reprises that in Vettai in a toned-down scale. An action-hero avatar is looming for Arya. Vettai is a neatly-packaged entertainer by Lingusamy who makes films with different themes.
