Too much of everything
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
I expected far more than this crap. I just watched THE DRIVER (UK TV stuff) before. Two (Drivers) movies in a row. But both are pure crap if you compare them to Walter Hill's and Nicolas Wnding Refn's masterpieces. This one may be an interesting scheme, concept. But only at first sight. But it was so boring. So predictable...The best should have been a bad ending, as for certain grade B pictures, as BURIED, for instance. Yes, that's it, it should have deserved a twist ending, a surprising end. And not this disappointing finale. Forget it.
First, I think we are going to see great things from director Jeremy Rush. Awesome things. This is, after all, only his fourth film. This is a true actioneer. It is meant to keep you on the edge of your seat pretty much the entire time. It does that too. Granted, there had to be a reason for the Wheelman to do what he does, and the story works quite well in explaining why we are on this wild, but well controlled ride. The cinematography is OUTSTANDING!!! Just stellar. Hell I felt like was in the car, hanging off of the fenders, or gripping the hood white-knuckled. And let's be honest, this is what this sort of film is supposed to do to you.Frank Grillo IS the character. He is very convincing. I also like that they brought in Caitlin Carmichael (as Katie) toward the end and we got to watch how well dad's training worked on his daughter...in a Porsche 911.A very engaging film. I predict that twenty, thirty, forty years from now it will be hailed as a classic.
No not Ryan Gosling nor Mark Dacascos (Kudos if you know what I'm talking about with the latter without googling). Also nothing to do with the game (Wheelman) Vin Diesel did voice many years ago. Having this all out of the way, this movie could also be called "Car(s)". We do stick to cars most of the time and often even inside them. While that may sound dubious or maybe uninteresting, think about the movie "Locke" with Tom Hardy, but with a lot more action attached to it. Does it all make sense? Not really. Will you care? Well I can't answer that. I can tell you that if you don't mind logic issues and very convenient happenings (coincidence you say?), then you will be entertained watching this. Running time is short enough and Grillo carries the movie ... well drives it to the finish line ...
A getaway driver for a bank robbery realizes he has been double crossed and races to find out who betrayed him. Wheelman was an action film that i didn't expect to like and Frank Grillo owned the role of 'Wheelman' in every way and even tho the film takes place entirely inside a car it's still an action packed and suspensful crime thriller with an excellent perfomance from a talented main actor also i loved the soundtrack and the opening credits it reminded me a bit of 80's and 90's classic opening titles. Overall familiar concept like 'Drive' and 'Baby Driver' but still a well directed and well acted film that i'm sure fans of genre will be pleased with. (9/10)
