Joe Slaader is a mysterious mountain man being held in the Ulster County Asylum after the brutal murder of his family. Edward Eischel, a young intern, sees something more than just an inbred monster in this new inmate, however. Instead, he sees him as the harbinger of some greater and much darker force. With bodies piling up, his job in jeopardy, and his sanity hanging in the balance he gives in to his obsession with tapping into Joe's hidden power, risking all that he has along the way.

I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Joe Slaader (Sanderson) is a bizarre mountain man who happens to have his unborn dead twin grown into his back making him deformed and mad. After killing his family (Shown in flash cutting which is poorly executed and not watchable) Joe is brought to a asylum where young intern Edward (Yount) is anxious to experiment using his own secret methods. The twisted deformed man comes from a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, nothing else here is even close to being worth of having Lovecraft's name on it. This terrible movie is shot in black and white and at times goes to color. Why? Who knows? The acting is mostly embarrassing and all though there is bright red splashy blood and gore on hand; it is cheap and not effective. The annoying editing and clumsy style of the film makers make this a real chore to sit through. Dreadful, and not in a good way.

I first watched this movie a few years ago, when the cover art on the film caught my eye. I found it to be confusing the first time through, but nonetheless a really good film. It kept me on my toes and I constantly asked myself, "whats next?" The climax of the story was very surprising, and it's something I did not expect. I ended up watching the film a few times during my rental time, every time seeing something I missed the time before. The girl with her brain exposed sent chills down my spine, and the black and white filming really brought on a sense of old antique horror. Having said that, the acting is so-so, and some parts seemed very comedic when they should not have been, but overall I found it to be a very interesting film, and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good psychological horror film. I became obsessed with the film, and the name "amdouchous" will stick with me forever, as the name of my pet turtle! (RIP Amdouchous)

OK, this movie is hard to put into words...i believe the point of the film was to make YOU feel insane....its very jumpy and has good points ...i believe the "acting" was meant to be very dry and non emotional ..like you were reading the movie as apposed to watching it .... very poetic actually .... and thats why liked it ...i rented it out of curiosity and me, my woman and buddy spades-1999(user name on here)watched it one night, and he asked me "man, whats with you and all these weird, making no sense movies you put me through" ...lol...i don't believe him or my woman liked the movie, i however thought it was something .... I'm not sure what... but it spoke to me in a weird way ... and very few movies have done that so ill be buying it one day ...not for the $19.99 that hastings has been asking for it but a couple of bucks sure ..lol....if your wanting to watch something that will leave you saying "what did i just see?" then go for it, it does have things to offer an open mind ...(4), vocalist GOD IN A MACHINE

It seems everyone who has reviewed this thinks its a terrible Lovecraft movie or a great comedy. It's not as f_cking terrible as some say it is but 10/10 come on its not that good, even as a comedy. Its far from the worst of the worst but the sh_tty camera work and acting add to its B-movie charm. There some stuff that would be pretty disturbing if done right, and its not really done right. The story line is really cool but thats no credit to the filmmakers. Also the movie puts Tom Savini's name right on the box which gives it some cred but he's only in like 2 F_cking scenes which is gay. And the the CGI monster at the end sucks. And on the DVD there was a preview for some movie where some fat bald guy kills people which is fun. So in conclusion this movie is some what creepy but(90% of the time) in a really funny way.
