If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

I looked up the story of the deer woman, and Max and John Landis really stick with the legend. The story is about a discredited homicide detective (played brilliantly by Brian Benben) and a somewhat wet behind the ears patrolman who are investigating these brutal murders where these man are being beaten into hamburger. The only connection is they have been seen with this drop dead gorgeous woman (and boy is she!). It turns out the only way this whole thing makes any kind of sense is if he were accept the deer woman exists, which sounds totally stupid to the detective. There are some funny moments to this, and Cynthia is perfect as the deer woman. (Come on guys, could you resist that if she's hitting on you?) I did like the references to 'An American Werewolf in London', and 'The Blues Brothers'. It added to the humor and kind of said this movie doesn't take itself too seriously. It's fun and entertaining so that's all that I can say.

Honestly, as soon as I saw the title after the opening credits, I considered skipping the middle man by turning this off and just throwing up in my mouth. But..., that would've been a huge mistake. This episode is just amazing. The short isn't scary or thrilling, or even serious. This is without a doubt the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. It's about this incredibly hot Native American woman who has deer legs and seduces and tramples random men to death. The entire "hot chick with deer legs murdering men," myth, despite being a real thing, is just so incredibly ridiculous just to hear to see it on screen is just WOW. I must say, the absolute best part is when the detective is laying in bed, playing scenarios about how the truck driver at the beginning got trampled to death in the back of his big rig. It's just funny as f***. This short is well worth the watch. Seriously, don't make the mistake I almost did and turn it off because of the stupid title because this is gem and every single person on the planet should see it once.

I guess some didn't like the fact, that this entry into the Masters of Horror series is so tongue in cheek. Some have even written, that Mr. Landis is not that much of a "master" (of Horror), having only done "Werewolf in London". The thing is, that with "only" that one movie, he has proved, that he can handle horror and comedy really well. I had the pleasure of watching Werewolf in London last year and it the movie hasn't dated. The tone is similar here, with supporting characters, that aren't really necessary (story-wise), but add to the whole weird world Landis creates. The actors are really great and the idea of a spin off to this, sounds awesome (though I don't think that is likely to happen, ever). On the DVD there is also a commentary track, which by only a few bits that I've listened to so far, is as entertaining as this episode. If you can cope with the humor and some nice references, you will like this. It has some very crazy ideas. Plus the woman in the lead role, is just stunning. If not for anything else, watch it for her! ;o)

This is the most uproarious comedy I have seen in ages. My best friend and I stayed up until 3:00AM Xmas Eve watching the 1-hour film and the 3 hours (!!!!) of extras on the DVD. The highlights for us: 1) A clip of John Landis directing the 'Deer Woman' lead by yelling "Smile! Smile! Now, frown!" 2) The god-awful CGI deer legs. 3) The deer wearing lumberjack clothing. 4) The woman who murders a trucker with a stuffed deer leg. 5) The interview with the lead actress, during which she debates whether it was a positive or negative that her part had no lines. Believe me--it was a positive. 6) The smile the 'Deer Woman' gives looks exactly like the smile on the woman who shoots ping-pong balls out of her privates in 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. 7) The Troma-level acting of Officer Reed. 8) The fact that the trucker is wearing a hat that just says 'Wiener.' 9) The 1.5 minutes of the hour-long interview with Landis where he actually talks about this film. 10) The stills. My God, the stills. I run a little club titled Le Bad Cinema, which consists of a small group of masochists who punish each other by screening progressively awful films. This will be my entry for our next meeting. God bless you, John Landis.
