The Japanese Wife (2010)

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

The Japanese Wife is just another piece of diamond. Rahul Bose and Chigusa Takaku have done a wonderful job. Although, Japan is my favorite country and Japanese are the most preferred people for me as I have a big respect for them. This movie just made me to cry which I really could n't stop. Trust me, this is just a movie based on Platonic love and it specifies what is a true love is. The Japanese Wife just made my day and now I wish I could also marry a Japanese girl. Loved this movie to the core. I would recommend this movie to all the audience. Really a sweet and a brilliant movie. I just that a sequel to The Japanese Wife comes very soon. I really can't wait to watch it. Aparna Sen just did a great job and wish she comes out with a sequel to it very soon.

I liked previous Apran Sen's movies, specially the very first one - '36 Chowranghee Lane'. But in contrary to common view, it was quite disappointing. May be I was expecting too much. As I am residing in Japan for quite long, I know how improbable is this story. Also, how they two first became pen-friends remains a mystery. This movie sometimes tried to be realistic, and sometimes too dreamy. But happened to be neither serious nor entertaining. Only the cinematography looks good. Humors are also mostly did not work (for me). But its a relative thing. If anyone prefers impractical but idealistic characters in movies, they may like it. Usually reliable Rahul Bose looks very much like 'acting', hardly natural. But seems this movie has a big fan-base, so you can also give it a try.

I am big fan of Aparna sen. i don't understand Bengali but that doesn't stop me watching this movie. its journey to meaningful cinema where you can experience the character from within. its about a small village teacher become postal friend to a Japanese girl and their relationship bonds over through letters. withe the passage of time they marry each other from within and stay committed to each other.this is going to stay in your mind for long time. one of the best movies i have seen. Rahal Bose and Mausami is class. Raima Sen is first class. cinematography is extremely wonderful. hats of to the director for choosing wonderful location to shoot. this is for sure a great movie in every aspect. Indian cinema at best.

first i would miss it if i would not be suggested by my friend ..thank god..i didn't.....it is such a wonderful movie with great acting,direction and the environment they set up,i have never seen in Indian movies this year.gradually the story continues..it will hold on to your mind gracefully.everybody in this film played their character very well and Rahul bose..he is an excellent.apart from "mr & mrs iyer","15th park avenue"..this film is "one piece" of its kind.aparna sen has again showed her quality as a director in this film.i would say,this is not the genre that everybody will like it.but the love story and the representation of the simple story ..is such that you should watch it at least once,then you will know the charm of this film. yes,i would recommend tat you should watch the film without any "second thought".
