In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Having seen many love stories all my life, I hardly find love stories totally refreshing and innovative but Jaane tu stands out to be one. It's the story of two people who happen to be friends forever with a hidden love for each other which they find out towards the ending. Imran khan is okay in his debut role but Genelia proves to be the performer of the movie. Story is narrated in a simple way in the movie but the screenplay of this movie is just awesome. No scene goes waste in the movie and climax is the real treat. Over all, Jaane tu is one movie which remains to be my all time favorite in love stories category. This movie has beautiful lyrical values clubbed with mesmerizing music by A R Rahman sir. If you ever wanna start watching any Indian teen movie, give Jaane tu the first shot.

I was feeling guilty to put up any comments after seeing pages after pages of excellent reviews by the viewers. I understand everyone loves a love story but I am still wondering whether some of the reviews came from the movie makers themselves!! The " Friendship eventually ends up in love" concept in bollywood is at least two decades old. The famous dialogue in Maine Pyaar kiya " A girl and a boy cannot be friends" has been reinforced by several movies over a period of time( Jo Jeeta, Kuch kuch hota hai etc etc). In this movie we of course see an urban GenY couple with no parental objection issues , no rich girl poor boy hassles and apparently no love clashing career plans that lovers faced in the older days. Instead in modern India it's the couple who create their unique problems by misunderstanding their love for friendship ( not the other way round mind you!). And so it goes on..They are not just " good friends" but BFF (best friends forever for people who grew up in the 90's) who call each other by cute names , spend their each waking moment together and go as far as searching each other's life partners. Lot of things happen till they eventually realize what everyone else knows from the time the movie begins. Imran and Genelia fit the young, hip couple and thankfully are actually young enough to be college going kids. However, acting isn't that important so Genelia keeps up her annoying act of been a spoilt , loud teenager and Imran wavers between sensitive, timid and yet protective - a routine he has repeated umpteen number of times by now. However, the positives of the movie is that it targets the youth section of the audience which is obvious from the innumerable good reviews it received. It has some degree of freshness at least where situations and jokes go..The characters are not badly placed either except they are created for the sole purpose of putting these 2 protagonist in the limelight. Dealing with their love life is everyone's goal plan. At the end it gets lot of it wrong but something right and makes a fun watch - Try it if you don't mind a teenage love story.

Perhaps I was expecting TOO much.See, I watched this movie really late, almost when the theaters were empty. I saw SPARKLING promos, amazing songs and heard really good things about this movie.I was expecting a movie like Kal Ho Na Ho. One I would love instantly.I was disappointed. It started off weird. The airport scene was indeed very boring and overused. The friends very robot-like.And then we FINALLY see him and her. The stars. The one we know will win all the best debut awards this year. Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza.Imran Khan surprised me. I was expecting another mediocre, here in the industry because of relations but he is indeed good. Genelia is decent but needs to work on her accent. She also looks very similar to Sonai Kulkarni, who is a much better actress than she.The story was average. It had its moments. There were times when you were laughing very hard and times when you wanted to go hide under the seat because of the syrupy sweet, totally unrealistic lives and dialogs and story. It tried to teach parents some things as well. The situation with Imran's girlfriend's parents was a very good example and a bit believable as well. I hope parents learn from it.Had I not heard so much about it, I would not have been so disappointed. It was that I was expecting so much, so, so much, that I was so sorely disappointed. It could have done so much better. There were times when it could have shined. But it failed.I think that it is watchable, but only if you have no expectations.A cute romantic comedy, masala movie.5/10.

Obviously after seeing hundreds of films (and reviewing over 150), i should be knowing a lot about movies, not the technical factors but simple things like originality, entertainment, music etc etc.But do i??!!! Expert No 1 - This is a fresh (original) film.Me- Is it ?? 6 friends 3 girls 3 guys 2 that are seeing each other 2 that are confused and 2 that are asexual (has anyone seen friends?), 2 people that love each other but don't know yet (lets not even talk about how FRESH THAT IS).Pleasing as watching end of college romantic comedies may be (hell even one of the American pies was one), ITS AS OLD AS MOVIES ITSELF.Expert No 2 - Mature and Subtle Portrayal of relationships and people.Me - Did we see the same movie. A villain whos probably as evil as gabbar given the context of the film. The other girl who had to be dumped. A talking portrait, EXTRA CHILL PARENTS (i wish each and every parent was really that chill in real life). This movie did have some special moments though, but most were anything but subtle, like the Khan Brothers, meeting the parents etc etc.Expert No 3 - All the actors did a superb job.Me- Did they Genelia still has difficulty in handling emotional scenes, and her dubbing/voice is at least 5 movies away from being even good, Imran Khan was actually quite good, but as the joker says "WHY SO SERIOUS", even in the comedy scenes there was an air of aloofness or seriousness about it, as if to say im here to do a serious job, and if the scene require comedy then i will processionally handle it.ALSO WHAT NOT MANY PEOPLE HAVE POINTED OUT IS THE SLOWISH PACE OF THE FILM, really there is only one story in the entire film and for that movie is quite long, its not like alternate tracks have been given much importance. The placement of songs and the fact that we feel compelled to play the whole song once we start it, is still annoying.ON MOST OF THE REST I AGREE WITH.Yes the acting is very good but lets not push it to superb.Yes the movie is funny most of the times when it wants to be.Yes some of the emotional scenes are actually tolerable for a drama hater like me.Yes this is one of the best movies this year (more from the lack of good movies i might add).Yes you must watch this movie (hell if you like movies (especially Hindi) what other choices do you have, and you will enjoy yourself). In all a very good if not great movie that should be watched if you like some good fun with the odd emotional moments.-s sluggish pace, bad use of songs, not fresh or original.+/-s acting superb???? maybe maybe not.+s mostly fun, concept still appeals after all this time, Genelia looks really nice (acting has nothing to do with the fact that i have semi- crush on her).total 7/10 (this movie actually met my expectations but im not factoring that so that others expectations are not to high, this movie once again gos to prove that if enough people tell you that a movie is superb you will believe it, QUITE FRANKLY I ENJOYED JAB WE MET MORE).BUT HELL, WHAT THE HELL DO I KNOW??.
