This is a sequel to Disney's The Little Mermaid, where Ariel's daughter, Melody, yearns to be part of the ocean world. After finding a magic locket which shows the kingdom of Atlantica, Melody decides to run away from home and find the truth behind it and why her name is written on it. Ariel must turn back into a mermaid to return to the sea to find Melody and also stop Morgana, sister of Ursula, from taking over the ocean.Released directly to video, this movie was probably not meant to be a masterpiece and was probably made to capitalize on the success of the original movie. Although this movie brings back a little nostalgia from the first film, it sorely lacks the charm, imagination and magic of the original. The plot is very rushed through, leaving little room for suspense and character development, and the songs were forgettable. The newer characters, especially that of the walrus and the penguin, were quite annoying and Ariel doesn't have a very large role in the story. Sebastian is not the commanding and formidable crab that he once was in the first movie, rather, he appeared to be too overwhelmed or woeful in this sequel. And, I understand that you have to stretch your imagination a bit in animated movies, but this story treated like that it is common for humans to interact with talking animals; there needed to be some intrigue, like Melody showing some astonishment when running into talking walruses, crabs and penguins. The animation was OK and I liked the fact that the filmmakers brought back a lot of the original actors to voice the characters. Some of the action scenes were a little riveting, but the overall movie was just too rushed-through especially for such a large cast, which results in difficulty for emphasis to be placed on each one.Overall, not one of the better Disney sequels out there. The original movie is and should remain in a class of its one.Grade D

Weak, inconsistent, rushed, and lazy are the words I have to describe this poorly done sequel. What's the plot? Basically it's about Ariel's daughter, Melody, who wants to become a mermaid. The story could have had great potential, but they spoiled it. Where do I start? Melody: she's got no character compared to Ariel in the first film, all we know is that she's headstrong and loves the sea, whereas Ariel was headstrong, loved the land, a hopeless romantic, determined, and had a better written character development. It's like the writers were trying to make Melody just like her mother, just without a character development - which is what they did. In fact almost nobody in this story has real character development other than from annoying to obnoxious. Sebastian, what have they done to you? He had better laughs, a truly defined personality, and a guardian protectiveness in the first film, whereas in the film he's all laughs (and when I say "all laughs" in his case I mean "smack your head with a mallet unfunny!"). Scuttle also gets a "What have you done with him, Movie?" from me. He was dumb to an extent in the first movie, but was also helpful. Here in this movie, he's a useless blithering idiot, if you cut him from the movie it wouldn't make a difference. King Triton is underwhelming, and Ariel is just...........bland...ish, motherly blandish and a hypocrite. She tries to keep her out of the sea because it's dangerous, and of course it's so not like the original film. The new characters stink as well! Tip and Dash - DON'T REMIND ME OF THEM!!! They're so obnoxious that they make Olaf from Frozen look less annoying and more lovable. It always bothers me when Disney feels like the heroes always need a bumbling sidekick - and that they ALWAYS NEED A SONG!!! But of course we have the biggest flaw of the movie is Ursula - I mean Ursula - I mean Ursula - I mean Morgana. Her motivation is a flip flop: First she wants revenge for her sister's death (you heard right), then she's tired of her late mother favoring Ursula above her, and when she gets the Trident, does she make them pay for Ursula's death? No, she makes them bow to her. What was the point of bringing Ursula into this story - period? If she just wanted power, then fine - that's part of what motivated Ursula (aside from revenge for banishment), but the writers made her character motivation so inconsistent and rushed that not only can I not enjoy her as I did Ursula, but also it makes me beg to see the first movie with Ursula in it!The only good thing I enjoyed was hearing Ariel singing - that's always a pleasure. Also I loved in the beginning before the opening title Ariel's relationship with her baby girl - I could feel the attachment between the two for that first few seconds, but their relationship never develops afterwards. I could spend hours watching that scene (along with For a Moment). The plot and the animation being a replica of the first movie is bad enough, but the writing and story developments are horribly done that it makes me wonder if the better writers were fired and replaced by monkeys who were desperate for money. It not only hurts me to see my favorite Disney Princess go down the tubes, but to see something that was beautifully written, and beautifully animated be flushed down the toilet and resurrected as crud. It could have been a great sequel about a mother daughter relationship (which Brave did a better job on), but instead the monkey writers threw that chance away for reversed plagiarism. Shame for them.

In my marathon of Disney sequels, this movie is the second film I feared the most (the other one being Hunchback of Notre Dame 2). I have seen this movie as a kid, so I sort of knew I was expecting. But after ten years I did not remember much of this film, showing how bland and forgettable these movies are.I really enjoy the first one. It was the movie that give us the classics of the Disney Renaissance, an new kind of Disney princes in line with the second feminist wave (with Ariel) and the Broadway style that Disney still uses in their musicals. It has a great story, great songs, fantastic animation and every character is funny and memorable. This movie has none of the things that the original has. Let's start with the story. Ariel and Eric celebrate the birth of their daughter Melody, but then Morgana, the crazy sister of Ursula (yes, it happened), threatened her in order to get the trident of king Triton. To protect Melody, Ariel won't let her come close to the sea, even building a wall around the water. 12 years later and Melody is a person who likes water and simply ignore the wall. She finds out that she is part of the underwater kingdom of Triton and hates Ariel for not telling about it. She runs away and comes across Morgana and she gives her fins in exchange of the trident. As you can see, it is the same story of the first movie, but than backwards. What makes the plot predictable from beginning to end, with no originality what so ever. it makes you questioning why you watch this movie instead of the masterpiece of the original. The animation is not the worst I have ever seen (not after I watched the animated Titanic trilogy, Food Fight! and the video Biringquedo movies), but it is cheap and lazy for Disney standards. The design of the characters are sometimes creepy, with Ariel (one of the hottest female lead characters made by Disney) being the creepiest of them all. Most of the colors are too bright and don't look as natural as in the original.Speaking of characters, thy are all either bland and forgettable, or the kind that you hate because they are not like thy were in the original. Ariel somehow didn't understand the problems of Melody, even when thy are the same problems she had in the first movie. Prince Eric is just there so people don't question about why he is not in this film, he practically does nothing. Melody is annoying, bland and has no original personality. And then you have Tip and Dash, ho are rip offs of Timon and Pumba. Thy are there because Disney has an reputation of great comedic side characters (in their classic film made by people who know how to make a movie). Morgana is one of the worst villains of all time. She is basically an replacement of Ursula (and voiced by the same actress as the original) and showed us that the sister of the old villain want to have revenge plot, Does not work in the first place. There is nothing to say about the songs. Thy are just bland and uninspired (Howard Ashman is luckily unable to see what has happened to the movie that started his true fame). The first song makes me want to stop watching this film, after I was only watching it for 5 seconds!!!Just stay away from this movie. Stick to the original classics instead of the unnecessary sequels.

I'm not saying that this is a very bad movie, but it's closely to being one. This movie is a much of a remake for the original than being a sequel and it's true that remaking is not always a curse but apparently this sequel is semi to be a curse. I found the events of this movie to be semi interesting but I didn't find any event not even remotely interesting for real; this movie had my interests in it's events killed by just every second when first I watched it and I was about to give up but hey why should I be so harsh? let's handle the events and see what's the end with the story. All I'm saying is that this movie needs to improve itself over 600,000 time to at least be as good as the original. You may say I'm totally overreacting but that's how I see it. My preschool brother and 2nd grader sister at the time didn't like this movie at all. Both of them actually borrowed this movie for movie time at school and guess what, the both reported us of how everybody were bored from the events and their teachers eventually ended up replacing another movie instead of this just when it wasn't even close to the middle. If you want to watch this movie just go to youtube or download it but my advice to you: never pay a penny over this for even rent cause you might cry from believing that you've waisted your money over this.
