It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
LATE PHASES is another low budget werewolf film that feels a bit like a 'mumblegore' effort. The cast play run-down, depressed and dirty old characters eking out a living in a close-up forest town. Mysterious deaths plague the vicinity and it soon transpires that the culprit is, you guessed it, a were-beast. Sadly I found this film pretty routine and uninteresting. It has a few decent bits of werewolf action and some good transformations for the budget, but the rest of the film singularly lacks suspense and finesse. Tom Noonan plays the priest and is the only actor I recognised.
A blind Vietnam veteran takes on werewolves that are terrorizing a retirement community, to which he has just moved. Nick Damici was very good in the lead role but I couldn't help but wonder what Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson would have been like too. As much a drama as a horror, a lot of the film focuses on relationships, in particular between father & son. This, coupled with a long middle section that is horror-less, may not appeal to all horror fans but I liked the fact that it certainly is not a typical werewolf flick. Acting is generally good. As for the creatures, well there's a reasonable transformation scene but the werewolves themselves reminded me of the lesser Howling efforts.
A blind veteran moves to a small community for elders, where he is attacked by an animal one night. Realizing that he has been attacked by a werewolf, he spends his time preparing for the next full moon.It seemed to be yet another low budget crap werewolf movie. And yes, the werewolves to look like guys wearing cheap Halloween costumes, but the movie in itself is not that bad. The acting is good, the story of the grumpy, blind old veteran preparing for the next werewolf attack is actually more interesting than the attacks themselves. The fact that most of the characters are elderly is quite refreshing, and they manage to set a mood that kept me watching, not for the werewolves, but because I actually cared about what happened to the protagonist.
This was a nice surprise, and an attempt at a different angle on the werewolf theme. The film's plot has flaws but it's well enough done, and Nick Damici is very good in the role as a blind Vietnam veteran. The werewolf effects could be better but are acceptable. Film is a little similar to " Silver Bullet" but better in my opinion.Overall, it's a good film that holds the attention.
