It is nearly ten years after Voyager's return from the Delta Quadrant, and the Federation is in a crisis. The Federation's main suppliers of dilithium crystals are disappearing. Space and time have folded around several planets, effectively isolating them from any contact with outside worlds. And this phenomenon is not natural - someone or something is causing this to happen. This necessitates drastic measures; some of which are outside the Federation's normal jurisdiction. For this, Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, turns to Commander Tuvok, Voyager's former security officer and current head of the newly reorganized Section 31. Tuvok must put together a new covert, renegade crew - mostly outcasts and rogues - even criminals. This new crew is tasked with finding out what is causing the folding of time and space, and stopping it - at all costs.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

I'll give this a couple stars for the attempt. It was fun to see so many of the old cast and the general idea was solid. But I also found the film's direction to be disingenuous and even hypocritical. There was a right-wing libertarian philosophy built into the script and that would have been a slap in the face to the original Star Trek creator – Gene Rodenberry, who was a socialist (the opposite of a right-wing libertarian). From the near-opening dialogue about the 'needs of the many' to a starship captain named Galt, the politics were subtle, but there. Galt, btw, was the main character in wacky libertarian Ayn Rand's novel: Atlas Shrugged.Libertarians aren't creative enough to make up their own pop-culture so they need to try and co-opt everyone else's, insisting on a sickening revisionism of original intents. Star Trek is all about a peaceful and cooperative exploration of space whereas libertarians would prefer it being a competitive, you-lose-I-win, universe where the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition are the new Prime Directives.

I find it interesting that a kick starter fan based production actually reflects the base of the Star Trek universe others have stated they cut corners, well with a limited budget they managed to attract a cast that would do justice to a full blown production. Of course there will be corners cut many characters could have been fleshed out but all in all a very enjoyable effort in what one might make an analysis Gene Roddenberry would have totally enjoyed this story. Take it for what it is and enjoy. There are to many critics that can not sit down and just derive pleasure from the event nit picking their ego's to that 15 minutes of fame they seem to think they deserve

I am a backer of this fan film and really looked forward to see it, what do I think after seeing it? Well, I was ready for low budget effects so that was not a problem for me, it's the story that's the problem, because i'm not sure if this can be classified as Star Trek, even JJ Abrams movies had more respect for old star trek. This is a dark tale without moral. Chekov and Tuvok seem to have no problem cooperating with criminals who shoot to kill every time and why is Tuvok even in this movie? He gets like 2 minutes screen time, I wish he had got more screen time and Icarus crew less. Then we have the enemy.. that is so terrible and frightful in the beginning of the movie, but is in the end taken out just by some random criminals led by Khan's daughter. No this is not the Star Trek i grew up with and I prefer Star Trek continues instead of this dark tale. This is not what Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek was meant to be.

his was an excellent try and a lot better than most most Hollywood multi million dollar blockbusters. It sets the scene of Starfleet very well. The characters were intriguing. It had some great Hollywood character actors of the past. The acting in places seemed abit off but what pilot doesn't. That's what I see this as. A start. A promise of more star trek renegades. Please do more.I know it's hard as CBS aren't prepared to do anymore star trek TV and you've got Paramount starting really well with the reboot but then short selling the sequel and being very stuck in there ways. These fan films are star treks fans chance for new meat. I'm really looking forward to axanar. Keep it. Bring the renegades back I want to know whose at the centre of it.
