Absentia (2011)
Tricia's husband Daniel has been missing for seven years. Her younger sister Callie comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him 'dead in absentia.' As Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that Daniel's presumed death might be anything but 'natural.' The ancient force at work in the tunnel might have set its sights on Callie and Tricia—and Daniel might be suffering a fate far worse than death in its grasp.

That was an excellent one.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
I've watched this movie several times. The first time, I almost switched it off because I got the impression it was a really, really independent movie, very low budget. But I stayed with it and I'm glad I did. The story line is one that requires your attention - not just to dialogue, but the nuances of the characters. I can see why the ratings are so skewed with those who hated it and those who loved it. It's one of those movies. Give it a chance. There are no demons, slashers, or maniacal zombies, but you'll think twice before you walk through a pedestrian tunnel again.
Absentia was a big surprise, actually one of the better horror movies I've seen in a while. Not a typical creature feature, perhaps more of a psychological thriller... you really don't get introduced to what is hiding in the dark, only given just enough of a suggestion to make your hair stand on end and get that imagination working overtime. The story is intriguing, and suspenseful at all the right moments, and the ending was perfect! Great acting, decent script, plausible characters. I will watch this one again some time.
The plot is ridiculous, the acting sub-par, and the even someone that only has 10% of his attention focused on the movie will be able to predict what happens next...Give this a miss, but if you happen to see it and agree that it is as bad as I say, write a review yourself and let's save others from watching it. On another note, I just noticed my original review, which was one of the first for this movie, was deleted years ago because I stated that most of the positive reviews at the time were certainly from people involved with the production, so they went so far as to try to get rid of negative reviews by any means possible.
I feel confused, usually, I have nothing against low budget movies and I've seen some outstanding ones, but this one failed to catch a level of greatness in my eyes. Partly also because of the hype that the reviews here created, I thought I was in for a hidden gem...I liked the concept of the story, it was intriguing to a degree, yes, but the movie lacked in the execution and to me, it was pretty boring... the dialogues, the pace of events and even the music... They could've made indeed a much more entertaining movie out of it, that's for sure.
