There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

I'd heard good things about this but honestly wasn't all that impressed. I mean its okay but nothing special, even with James McAvoy in the lead and a nerdy (somewhat hilarious) role from Benedict Cumberbatch. The music is good, headlining The Cure and other 80's gems and it is charming but not particularly original, funny or all that endearing.McAvoy is Brian Jackson, a 1985 working class bloke with a love of knowledge who gets a scholarship to the university of Bristol. He spends most of his time there navigating love and relationships while preparing with his team for "University Challenge", a popular televised college quiz show. 9/6/14

Starter for 10 is a coming of age tale with a lot of 1980s music but a slight and bland story.Brian Jackson (James McAvoy) loved facts ever since he was a wee nipper and has enrolled at Bristol University where he has a chance to enter University Challenge then a long running ITV show with Bamber Gascoigne. He also falls for lively, flirty, posh and good looking blonde Alice Harbinson (Alice Eve) but also gets entangled with lovely, lively, left wing activist and good looking brunette, Rebecca Epstein (Rebecca Hall). When it comes to the television quiz he has a testy relationship with captain of the team Patrick Watts (Benedict Cumberbatch) and things get worse when one of Brian's hometown friends gets involved in a fight with Patrick. The film has a cast of youngsters who have gone on to become famous such Cumberbatch, McAvoy as well as Dominic Cooper and James Corden. Mark Gatiss is a convincing Bamber Gascoigne and the recreation of University Challenge is very good but that is a very small part of the film despite the title of the movie. The rest of the film about a young teenager discovering a romantic awakening in Thatcher's Britain is rather humdrum. The film is an adaptation of the book which may be more spiky than this.

This film has to be one of my favourites since I was forced to watch it by cultural people. Luckily I was not disappointed. The general story is of a Brian (McAvoy), an intelligent and clever young man who after going to university in Bristol, joins the University Challenge team. During this time, he falls for an attractive blonde on the team called Alice (Eve) while being completely oblivious to the affections of the beautiful intellectual, Rebecca Epstein (Hall). The film has a great cast and some good comedy moments. A great cast, and some good dialogue. There's not much else to say about it, but that if you ever feel unhappy and depressed, watch this gem, it will not disappoint in cheering you up.

Starter For 10 is a British romantic comedy about a man named Brian (James McAvoy), who, ever since boyhood, dreamed of being on the trivia show University Challenge. So, when he goes off to college, that is his main goal. The only thing standing in the way is his crush on a girl on his team named Alice (Alice Eve), and another crush named Rebecca (Rebecca Hall). They both distract him from trying to complete his life long goal of being on University Challenge. McAvoy is very good here, doing a unique and interesting way of acting, and the film is extremely entertaining. The love triangle between Brian, Alice, and Rebecca just add to the fun of the film. Eve and Hall are also quite good here, they're both so sweet and soft spoken, which is the kind of performance I like in a romantic comedy. The film is very lightweight, so you don't feel like you're watching a raunchy comedy like some romantic comedies make you feel like. The film is also carried by music by bands like The Cure and The Smiths. The film should not be rated PG-13 as it is very cute and innocent with no real sexuality or bad language. I am definitely recommending Starter For 10.
