During a trip to Germany to scatter their grandfather's ashes, German-American brothers Todd and Jan discover Beerfest, the secret Olympics of downing stout, and want to enter the contest to defend their family's beer-guzzling honor. Their Old Country cousins sneer at the Yanks' chances, prompting the siblings to return to America to prepare for a showdown the following year.

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

I don't know what it is about "Beerfest" that makes me love it so. Could it be that it takes me back to when I saw it for the first time in my teens? I don't think so, I thought "Super Troopers" was hilarious and I didn't like it as much when I re-watched it a couple of days ago. Could it be the story? Not that either, the story is pretty typical, run-of-the-mill good guys vs bad guys. I think what makes me love "Beerfest" so much is that the characters are great, the writing is hysterical, and it appeals to that inner party animal inside of me. While I've never drunk beer like these guys in my life, the movie's all about having fun and partying. There's no drama, suspense, terror, or explosions, it's just a feel-good comedy. This is only the second movie by Broken Lizard I've seen, and so far it's my favorite. So many jokes, so many memorable scenes, so many laughs, and so much fun. I highly recommend this, it might be dumb, but it's still a great ride. Also, note to self: Watch "Das Boot" as soon as you can.

Unfortunately me and my other half couldn't decide what to see when we got to the cinema. And we ended up seeing this load of tripe! Right from the start I knew I was in for 2 hours of boredom. The "German" spoken in this movie is barely passable. In fact did they even consult anyone who spoke the language when they made the film? Because half of it is made up.The "Das Boot" joke was shocking. Though by that point I had come to expect that type of inane predictability. My boyfriend at least thought it was passable, but only because of all the scantily clad women featured. The best thing about this movie was the outtakes, and they weren't even that good.

I don't want to be another person who tries to criticize other people's opinions but seriously if one of your example's of why this was a bad movie is 'the German wasn't correct' or 'there accents weren't believable' then you have absolutely no idea what kind of movie this is. They weren't supposed to be accurate, they were supposed to be exaggerated takes on the stereotyped idea of what German's sound/act like...D'uh, just like all the other countries they portrayed in the show. I know I am being aggressive but it is annoying to see people complain about the accents (and then coming to the conclusion only ignorant people like this movie because they don't know any better)when they don't even grasp that it might have been on purpose. It is obviously meant for the younger generation because a lot of this stuff does actually happen when I go out clubbing or to a party. This is exactly the kind of movie that you watch while drinking with mates on the weekend (it is a whole lot better than a movie like avatar from that perspective) and yet it does have some underlying sophistication. I like the deep, thought provoking movies as much as the next intelligent person but YOU ARE ignorant if you can't see why this movie can be funny to a large number of people without automatically meaning they are 'lowbrow'.I think a lot of you need to get off your high horse. Just because you don't understand this kind of humour does not mean it isn't funny. Like the beer goggles scene, that was classic because I know the experience. Just like most guys my age could probably sympathize with.

How can you not like this movie, huh? It is what is a movie about drinking and fun..and more drinking. The start of it seems silly but as the movie went on I thought that there were some pretty good scenes and the actors were hilarious.Trying to enter a competition and keep their A-game alive as well.I liked this movie for the fact that is was all silly fun,the characters made it believable and adding that Monique had a cameo was a plus. The scene with her and Jay are too funny. If liked movies like Animal House and Old School you will like this one.
