It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

This is a similar concept to national lampoons vacation. It is still funny because I like Robin Williams

RV is not hilariously hysterical, cerebral fun or even original. It borrows from National Lampoon's Vacation films to John Hughes films such as Planes, Trains and Automobiles.Robin Williams promises his family a holiday in Hawaii but his boss lands him with a last minute merger deal so he takes them on a cross country trip in a RV while secretly working in his business project as he does not want his wife to find out the real purpose of the trip. Along the way Williams gets into all sorts of scrapes, embarrasses his family and meets up repeatedly with Jeff Daniels who is also on a family road trip. Its kind of strange to see Williams doing broad comedy after he reinvented himself as a serious actor, especially one who played psychopaths in several movies.I guess he got a good paycheck because you always get the feeling that he is slumming it. The film is decent enough, sporadically amusing and some of the slapstick is well done. However it does remind of you of similar road trip films from the 1980s and the original comedic spark from Williams is lacking.

Well, it's no masterpiece. But it is extremely entertaining. This was, for a long time, my family's favorite movie, and I've seen it countless times. Only after what was probably 20 or even 30 viewings did this movie start to lose its humor. It truly is funny and will be enjoyed by the whole family, kids and adults alike.Robin Williams is in top form, adding to the script and his performance with lines and details only he could have thought up. His delivery is perfect and highly comedic. The rest of the cast? Well, they're not going to win any awards. The acting is mediocre, and certainly doesn't compare to Williams' performance, but it is not horrible. They are still funny, although they mainly set the stage for Williams to perform. The situations the Monroes get themselves into are just too funny. Their family dynamic is relatable and down-to-earth - but still crazy, of course! As for the humor itself, it is very, very much potty humor. Although there are occasional witty comments thrown out, the majority of the laughs come from gross, stupid occurrences as opposed to carefully constructed and intelligent remarks. To be honest, the quality of the movie is probably more deserving of an eight or seven out of ten, but I have a soft spot for this movie and would recommend it to anyone.

I will keep this review brief because I really don't want to put more effort into this review than anyone who involved in the writing of this film. There are many people on this site saying "It's not as bad as everyone says," well they're right this movie is even worse than anybody could possibly describe. The premise itself is pretty lame. A family goes on a road trip because they can't go to Hawaii due to the family patriarch's work obligations. Eventually whatshisname bonds with his kids and learns some sort of valuable lesson. So, this is nothing we haven't seen before, but how well is it executed. Answer: horribly. The characters are the stereotypes of The workaholic father, the wife who has no personality to speak of, the insecure teenage son who tries to look like a bad@$$, the distant college-bound teenage daughter, and the pointless "whacky" family. The jokes are just a barrage of Robin Williams being a spazz, poop jokes, random "whackiness", and a bunch of idiocy I am sure I forgot to mention. There is also something about a small time soda company being bought out, but if you still want to see this movie I can't stop you.
