After leaving their company Christmas Party together, David Hargrove and Emily Brandt’s impromptu first date takes an unexpected turn when their coworker, Corey, asks them to make a late-night stop at an ATM. What should be a routine transaction turns into a desperate struggle for survival when an unknown man appears outside the vestibule. With the wintry temperatures dipping below freezing, and the morning sunrise still hours away, they have no choice but to play the man’s deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

Reviewers were perplexed why they parked so far away. It was stated in the movie. He was making his friend "pay" by "having to walk", (for injecting himself on the ride home with the woman from work, that his friend finally gets to spend time with)... meanwhile taking advantage of the less then perfect situation, by getting a few moments of half way private time with his crush. So this "plot hole" that was complained about, isn't a plot hole. It made sense to me. While there were other plot holes, and numerous things a bit far fetched the movie was done well enough I quickly moved on from them and just enjoyed the tension and pace of the movie. It wasn't that predictable for me and the acting in this film was really well done. I didn't notice any editing glitches (which means it was done well) The camera work, while simple and un creative, still worked well. The score added to the tension and creepiness if a bit usual and unmemorable. The setting, costumes, dialogue all appropriate. The pace a bit slow, but I get that it was attempting to build tension. All in all this was a fairly decent movie. Mediocrity at its best, and not deserving of such low votes of 1-3 that I reserve for atrocious acting, hand held cameras and screenplays written in one sentence dialogues.

I was thoroughly disappointed by this movie. I had moderate expectations due to a mediocre trailer, but the bad acting and plot holes left a lot to be desired. The female character displayed the characteristic features of a desperate and useless typical lead role, i.e. whiny bitch. There was no explanation, we were constantly wondering why any of this was happening. There was only one room used, I wanted to see some variation in scenery. And as usual, the only black guy in the movie died... This movie is bad Really bad Do not recommend I would give a score lower than 1 but that is not allowed Thanks for reading #sophfleurtomsubscribe to my review channel. As about a million folks here have made clear, this film really takes the suspension-of-disbelief bit a tad into the next galaxy. Fortunately I only watched it while playing a word game. Which was much more thrilling than ATM. Director. Writer. You are obligated to plausibly account for why 3 people in bitter cold would park a hefty distance away from the ATM, and why the same 3 do not consider running away at any point, which they could easily do. There is ONE unarmed psycho out there (who, by the way, telepathically knows that his 3 imminent victims happen to not have their cell phones on them, which is extremely unlikely but which allows him to murder the comically sacrificial security guard in front of them). I'm actually fine with no explanation of the psycho's motives, although his residence choice (a storage locker) is questionable. Everything else, however, is just plain beyond ridiculous, even down to the police completely ignoring the survivor's desperate attempt to point out the killer, and there were a lot of police. This could have been a good thriller. All it needed was writing that obeyed the most basic laws of physics and probability.

So here's how the pitch meeting probably went: "So we're going to do a thriller, kind of like Phone Booth, but with an ATM machine. We're going to get the Buried writer on board and some young up-and-coming talent to play three saps who get tormented by a faceless killer who traps them in one of those stand-alone bank machine buildings in the middle of nowhere in the dead of night.""Okay, so far so good.""Except they're not trapped. Like the doors are unlocked and they can leave any time.""Wait so... what?""Don't worry about it, okay? They're just like, in there. And the killer, see, he has all these ATM schematics that we'll superimpose over the opening credits, Se7en-style, to show that he meticulously masterminded this whole thing.""Alright I'm listening.""Except he doesn't bring a weapon of any kind with him. Or tools. Like, he's planning on messing with the heat 'cause it's really cold out and he has to like clang around in the back there to turn the heat off and also flood the place--cause it's waterproof. He just gets the tools out of their car, see.""So he has their car keys?""Oh no, they have the keys in there with them. They don't make a break for the car while he's doing other stuff though, because they parked really far away for some reason.""I'm starting to see the logic of this. And of course they don't have phones in there.""Why would they? It's 2012, nobody has a cell phone.""Alright, I'm into this. And this killer--he's some disgruntled guy, right? Like we find out that our heroes actually wronged him somehow so what's happening to them is karma? Twist ending, love it.""Oh no, he's a total rando who goes around trapping people in ATM booths and the like because he's really bent out of shape about living in a storage container.""SOLD."
