One of my all time favorites.
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
I think this movie had a lot of potentials to be even better than this. I am being generous and give it an 8 out of 10. (7 would be more reasonable though) The story (which was based on a true one) was pretty intense and well-thought. The main actor was great, and I didn't notice any major problems in cinematography or soundtracks... But what made me score lower than 9 was the two other female actresses. God, they were bad! The mother didn't even look like a mother! and the rescue lady was cold as ice (well, kinda makes sense in such a cold weather, lol). For me, the mother was a total turn off! I would try to imagine my mother being in the same situation, and I am sure should would have been much much much more distressed. She was like 'oh, my son is lost, is my make up still on?'Overall, nice movie! definitely give it a go... It won't disappoint to be honest.
This true survival story probably should have contained more of an emotional punch because it is a remarkable tale. However, the filmmakers here appear content on more of a slow burn approach to retelling former pro hockey player and meth addict, at the time, Eric LeMarque's 8 days of hell lost on a snowy mountainside in Winterhaven. Combined with numerous depressing flashbacks, throughout the movie, depicting LeMarque's troubled life it all added up for me as not the easiest watch. However,as you might guess from the title it does have a poignant ending, and the clips at the film's conclusion of the real Eric LeMarque and what he has done with his life offer an inspiring message of receiving and taking advantage of a second chance in life
This film tells the story of a drug addicted man who goes to a mountain cabin to stay away from drugs. He goes snowboarding, but he soon gets lost in the mountains and have no way to get help. He has to fight for survival. The story is built very slowly, and there are many occasions when I wonder why he does what he does in the film. I don't know snowy mountains at all, but I would have imagined that there can be better decisions and actions than he exhibits. For example, going off the designated paths is not something I would do. Reaching for the bag of drugs after falling into icy water is probably not a good idea. Snowboarding down the slopes after knowing that you are lost seem unwise as well. I don't know if it is possible to backtrack on himself, or at least go to higher grounds to check for the presence of any buildings. The weather in the first few days were good, so he could have gone upwards for help, my logic tells me. Given all these questions and plot points that defy my logic, it is hard to get into the film because I feel exasperated. The fight for survival is not particularly engaging, as there is little to captivate viewers, and little suspense to drive the film. Though it is exhilarating to see the satisfying ending, the process to the climax does not capture me.
you will be able to tell soon enough that this true story has a good ending if you know nothing about the main character and it is worth watching. i recommend it for the reasons of the choices he made that saved his life and the love of his mother that did not give up and as well as he did not give up with all the way to his last conscious moment. sometimes when we accept our life choice, we forgive ourselves and make peace, the miracle happens.
