This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

A troubled woman living in an isolated community finds herself pulled between the control of her oppressive family and the allure of a secretive outsider suspected of a series of brutal murders. Beast is simply boring, cheesy and some of the acting is just over the top and ridiculous, the characters and the storyline were also simply just not that interesting either to be perfectly honest and it didn't make that much of a sense either. It's definitely an indie film that some people will appreciate and enjoy and some others like me will simply do not.

Another film that makes its stamp and cements the argument that there are still original films being made in 2018. Not only with it's haunting thrills and visuals, but memorable performances and direction give 'Beast' a place among the year's best. If she wasn't already known around the industry with her turns on television, Beast will certainly give way for more starring roles in film. Her physical and emotional performance is enough to send chills down your spine and take you through a whirlwind of feelings. In a world of films that feel cliche and made strictly for cash, Beast will stay with you long after the theaters, and it's consistently challenging and effective.9.2/10

This film is very sound technically, with cinematography being a particularly strong point. I felt as if I knew where the plot was going pretty early on, and this frustrated me a bit. However, the story was compelling and interesting enough that I was suitably captivated throughout. A genuinely interesting and disturbingly dark take on the classic romantic narrative.

From arresting visuals to piercing dialogue, Michael Pearce's Beast is a symphony of thrills and chills. Pearce's vision is crystal-clear as he guides us through a web of red-hot passion and ice-cold abuse. This vision is only elevated by the spectacular performance of the lead, Jessie Buckley, who vividly embodies these two sentiments and proudly drives the film. It can be difficult for a film to remain so thoroughly mysterious but the unity of all its working parts makes Beast a firm victory. While Beast may sometimes get bogged down in familiar plot-points, everything comes to fruition because the movie is ultimately playing a delicate game with our expectations. Greatly offsetting those familiar points are moments that turn everything upside. Displayed with expert craftsmanship (namely the scenic and cerebral cinematography), these moments create an air of true uncertainty. Authentic and raw, this twisted journey is one that will have viewers guessing until the very end. Brilliantly executed in a variety of measures, Beast is a ferocious yet gratifying ride.Writing: 9/10 Direction: 8/10 Cinematography: 9/10 Acting: 9/10 Editing: 7/10 Sound: 8/10 Score/Soundtrack: 8/10 Production Design: 7/10 Casting: 9/10 Effects: 7/10Overall Score: 8.1/10
