Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

The best Star Trek since 2001, better than the last 3 movies and Discovery, it,s 20 minutes long but it really captures the essence of what Star trek really is, It's not about the fan being difficult, it's about Star Trek keeping it's heart (or identity), just watch it on youtube and come back to say that my review wasn't helpful, i know you won't :)

I funded the Kick-starter, for full disclosure, and was skeptical, but optimistic about the movie. After watching the now completed Prelude, I was instantly hooked, and can't wait for the full-length feature. It's a great story, that's never been told in the history of Star Trek, and the production staff is fantastic, effects aren't perfect, but still fantastic for an indie-film. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it in 1080p glory on you-tube, and support a great take on the Star Trek universe, and canonical story-line. One of the best parts of the short film, in my opinion is the Documentary-like take on it, as if the viewer is setting in the 24th or whatever future century watching the Federation version of the History channel, and seeing what went down from the Captains that were there at the time of the 4 years war. Brilliant decision, and definitely adds to the characters, as they tell their side of the story.

This "little" production stays true to the vision that Gene Roddenberry started many years ago.Hands down, this is THE BEST independent adaptation to date. When the full length feature is made, it will make going to the movies a true adventure. The cast, special effects, make-up, costumes, & camera work came together in such a way that it makes you want more! This is something that the whole family can watch and have fun with, and learn something about our own current events. For my own reasons, I have not been to a movie theater since 2002. This short production makes me want to go in on the opening day.

Although this short film is a "fan film", the fans involved in creating this film are all professionals in the film business. The entire production is incredibly well done. Incredible writing that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Incredible acting that has me quoting some lines enough that I feel I need to pay the writer royalties! Add in incredible effects that (they tell us) were done on a very limited budget but look as good as any 'professional' or 'studio' production. The story is taken from the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" that introduced a legendary StarFleet Captain Garth of Izar, whose tactics and actions in the Battle Of Axanar were required reading for Captain Kirk when he was in StarFleet Academy, and was Captain Kirk's inspiration. This 21 minute short was produced as a 'proof of concept' to show that this crew could produce a full length film concerning the Four Years' War's conclusive Battle Of Axanar. I, for one, can not wait for that film. Spoiler: the Klingons do not defeat the Federation in the Four Years' War, due to Captain Garth's tactical genius at the Battle of Axanar. The actual Battle of Axanar is not seen in this short.
