The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Hairdresser from tha hood Emily Woodrow (Tangi Miller) and her ghetto pals discover a chest full of gold coins and, ignoring a warning from a psychic woman to deny their newfound wealth, find themselves threatened by a malevolent leprechaun. What has made the Leprechaun sequels bearable thus far is their blatant silliness and camp characters, with the focus on twisted humour rather than genuine horror. Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood plays everything a little too straight for its own good, with not nearly enough in the way of knowingly dumb nonsense: the death scenes are forgettable, and with some of the least likable protagonists of the whole franchise (drug smoking, gun toting thugs with few redeeming qualities), Back 2 tha Hood proves to be quite the painful experience. The funniest scene in the whole sorry mess is when Leprechaun (Warwick Davis, returning for the paycheck) smokes a bong, but we already saw the little guy get stoned in the previous film (which handled the whole 'G' thang with a lot more fun).

Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood (2003) * (out of 4) Sixth and so far final entry in the horrid series has a group of friends in the ghetto finding some gold, which they start having fun with even though they've been warned by a psychic that only evil can follow. Soon enough our beloved leprechaun (Warwick Davis) shows up for revenge. Even though the lep has headed back to the hood, this film has no connection to the previous one but it's doubtful too many people will actually care about that. If you're a fan of the series then I guess that means you'll enjoy this entry but now having seen all six movies I must say that there's no doubt that this is the worst series in horror film history. This one here, much like the previous, takes more of a comedy approach as our green man finds himself in a wide range of unoriginal situations. Of course we get a sequence where the lep is smoking from a bong and this is followed with a scene of him raiding the kitchen to get something to eat. Other silly sequences include him going up against countless gang members and we even get a scene where he has to go up against a couple crooked LAPD guys. I will admit that the scene with the police was rather funny but this is one of the few things that actually works here. The entire screenplay is just one cliché after another and there's not a single ounce of suspense to be found. Some might say the point of the movie was to make you laugh, which is fair enough but even on this level the film is bad because the majority of the laughs just miss their mark. The one good thing I can say about the film is that Davis appears to have a lot more energy than the previous movie. I thought that energy helped keep a little life in the film but not enough to make it work. The supporting performers range from bad to fair but the screenplay makes their characters so uninteresting and bland that you can't help but not give a crap about them. LEPRECHAUN: BACK 2 THA HOOD marked the final film in the series and I must admit that I'm very thankful.

I really don't see all of the fuss with this and the other Leprechaun movies.Sure,it's stupid in some parts, but this is actually a very entertaining horror movie.Well,it's more of a comedy than a horror, but you know what I mean. There is a little bit of gore, especially the part where the leprechaun took out a persons heart, and it was still beeping and pumping blood. That's a goof. The one problem with this movie is that it's full of them. For example, when the leprechaun grabbed a cop's leg,he supposedly tore it off.But in the next shot, his other leg is gone. But to say the least, this is a very entertaining piece of film that fans of the others should enjoy. When is 'Leprechaun 7' coming out?

Okay, first off, I have to say that I'm a big fan of lousy movies. Sure, I like the classics, the big budget summer blockbusters, and those cinematic gems that serve as glowing examples of the medium. But sometimes, I just want pure, unadulterated *schlock*.And for that, this movie gets points. It's not a thinking movie, there's not much of a plot, and a lot of the acting is laughable...but that's the point. If you can't take films like this with a grain (or mountian) of salt, why are you watching them? Best to expect something just plain fun, and enjoy the ride.Best moment: in the beginning scene, when the rainbow appears, the pastor (fearful of the leprechaun) starts freaking out, absolutely terrified. It perfectly sets up this movie for what it is: intentionally and unapologetically silly. Warwick Davis has been a favourite for a long time, and although it's a bit disappointing to see this franchise as one of the more prominent feathers in his cap, he does a great job. The best part is that he fully understands that he's in a low budget horror film, and doesn't pretend to think it's anything different. He's just having a blast filming it. The rest of the cast is largely unremarkable. They're not terribly bad, but nothing else really sticks out. Lots of cliché's and stereotypes that I found a bit worn, though. I did really enjoy seeing Page Kennedy in his role as Jamie...loved his performances in Weeds, and he plays a totally different character here, to great effect. The special effects were not great...but again, what should we expect? They did fine for what the movie aims to be. It was a bit odd to see some of the CGI they used, though...it seems they could have avoided it for more conventional filming, and it probably would have turned out better, and cheaper. (For example, when the Leprechaun is hanging from the bottom of the car, the road is obviously (and poorly rendered) CGI. That couldn't have been the easiest solution). All in all, this movie isn't good for much more than sitting back and having a good laugh. But if you're watching this with the expectation of seeing a scary horror film or some work of art, you got the wrong movie in the first place!
