Put up the first five minutes from this movie and then put up 'murder my sweet' on and glimpse the originality. That's actually positive, getting good references. Not a good casting, good actors in wrong roles, and unnecessary lame special effects. I get it, got to keep yours eyes on screen, but that ending scene was too much. The rest of the effects, lightning, filters, psychedroad movie scenes were OK, but not really his style, Not really, but OK, though.

I was looking forward to seeing this movie as I am am usually impressed by Banderas and Neil as actors. Visually the film is impressive too with a fascinating twist on 'film noir' genre as the movie is shot in colour and not B&W. Saying that, I've watched this and L.A Confidential in B&W and both still capture the essence and vibe of classic noir from the 40's and 50's However, as I settled down to watch The Big Bang, literally within minutes I began to wince at the unnecessary harsh language being spouted out by the actors. Why bother making such a stunningly visual treat and then stuff it full of bad language. For me it just ruins the viewing vibe. Now I can swear like a sailor as good as the next guy but sometimes, I just don't want to hear it.

The basic plot is the same as the Raymond Chandler novel and two previous films (Murder, My Sweet with Dick Powell and a later version with Robert Mitchem). Bandaras plays a similar hard boiled private eye to Philip Marlowe, hired by a huge ex-boxer and ex-con to find his lost stripper girlfriend. He travels from LA to finally Mexico but along the way meets an assortment of interesting characters, gets beaten up a lot, and gets involved with a search for lost diamonds and the meaning of the universe. Beautiful surreal use of colors and a lot of green screen effects. Some classic cars. Elements of David Lynch and The Big Lubowski as well. A lot of fun and very unique.

First, read the other reviews that rate this lowest - no need to repeat what they say, yes, this is a total piece of garbage. Banderas is awful, the script is pathetic, everyone involved should be ashamed. But in case you are wondering how it ends (yes, I actually watched it all, I was curious) - the letters were written by a cross-dressing physicist (I'm not kidding), the cops turn out to be the villains (Oh No!), Banderas manages to kill all three of them (shocker!), the Big Bang experiment just blows up and leaves a huge crater (whew!), Banderas gets away with the two girls and the diamonds, which they find in the gecko's tank. So now you don't need to waste your time watching to the end, stop wherever you are, it does NOT get better.
