It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Shocking scenes for horror transgression purpose, critics of reality TV and media, severe vision of modern societies today in the world or more especially in Japan... this movie is everything and nothing about this. You get to watch the unwatchable and you do not react. Disturbing scenes should disturb you but systematically fail at that. Why? Don't ask why. There's a reason for that. This movie is neither reality, nor fiction, it's just art. Also, you can't compare this to a David Lynch movie, it's exactly the opposite. Lynch uses symbolism to dive deep into dreams and madness. There's no dream here, just pornography. There you could be tempted to compare this movie to David Cronenberg's work. No, it's not "about" pornography. It doesn't question you about your own perversion. So what is this movie? Inside the matrix of art, it's surrealism. Maybe Luis Buñuel is the closest for a comparison. Though here there's no beauty and talent, just strangeness in an order of facts.Visitor Q is about nothing but the director himself and what he tries to force out of his mind. Takashi Miike is raping his consciousness to produce out-of-no-dream no-reality.This movie has no purpose. Should art serve any such? This is the only question worth asking. Now the movie even fails at that. It's gross, not depraved and outside of reason. It even tries to order things, to make a story when nonsense should prevail. Worse, it brings a morale of sorts in the family, through the stranger and the unfolding of events. This movie tries hard to be surrealist then kills all the potential of its surrealism. Takashi Miike betrays himself with his unconscious lies. You get the feeling that what he's hiding destroys the show. This is just wannabe surrealism, and finally boring as hell.

Let me start off by saying the ONLY reason I gave this movie a 2, is because I found myself laughing at a couple of the parts. People over examine this movie and act like its some hidden gem, but from the very start of the movie until the end it's exactly the same. Confusing Japanese incest/comedy. Literally the very beginning. Biggest let down in a while. I found myself checking the time constantly while waiting for it to end. And then not to mention the end. Hidden message? Deep meaning? Once again, I think it's just incest porn. But I have to admit, at the few parts I was laughing, I was laughing hard. SPOILER : For instance, the dad is having sex with a dead body and he says "you're wet. Even in death the body can get wet! How amazing!" And then he realizes she is releasing her bowels and just s**t all over him. He then says "this isn't amazing! It's s**t!" And I was dying.

I don't like all of Takashi Miike's movies but I found this one to be pretty enjoyable, despite it being quite an odd movie. But well, that's just Miike's thing, so be sure what to expect before watching this.Miike's handles all kind of different styles and themes and blends them together into this movie. It has lots of crazy characters, a bunch of violence and also a large amount of sex and nudity this time. This gets all combined with its absurd story, that strengthens all of its other themes, making this an odd as well as an unique viewing experience.Despite all of its heavy visual themes, with violence and sex, the movie is above all things also strangely entertaining to watch. Miike puts in his trademark comedy, that often makes this movie a light and pleasant watch, despite all of the heavy things that are happening on screen. He knows to put in the comical touches at the right place and at the right time.Of course it often is a hard movie to understand and follow because of all of its unusual themes and not so every-day common characters. It therefore also really isn't a movie for just everybody but if you are willing to give this movie a change with a clear mind and don't try to think too much about it all, until afterward when things start to seem to make more sense to you, changes are you might end up enjoy watching this movie. It's a movie that gets better as it progresses. At first it all is one big blur to you but later on things start to clear up more and you're able to understand some of it's themes and intentions of Miike. Everything starts to come together to you and suddenly what normally seems strange now seems perfectly normally, once you're drawn into Miike's world.A movie worth giving a go.7/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/

It's a damn pity you can't give movies negative scores, because that's exactly what this movie deserved.Involuntarily forced to watch the film, I was first faced with the question "When does it start?" followed immediately by "When does it end?". The plot is nonexistent, and the movie is simply a copy-pasting of violent and disturbing scenes together. It might be fun to watch as a comedy while hopped up on something, but other than that, you'd have more fun and gain more from slitting your wrists and soaking yourself in a hot-tub for the hour plus that the film takes to complete.Kuso. Or crap, in Japanese.
