Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I watched this movie for the first time over 30 years after it was produced. Considering its age, the fact that it is essentially a Chuck Norris film (whom I really never liked), and the numerous clichées in the premise and story-line, this motion picture was a rather pleasant surprise. It was decently scripted, decently acted (except for Mr. Norris, of course) and well filmed. Even the cheesy special effects don't take away too much from the overall viewing experience.Do not misunderstand me, this is no masterpiece by a long shot, but it definitely makes for some decent escapist entertainment on an evening with nothing much better to do. Definitely above average.

The Delta Force is, if you didn't already know, an elite band of American soldiers who do everything from rescue hostages to perform excessive wheelies on motorbikes while pursuing planes on runways. So, when some nasty ol' terrorists take a plane-load of innocent civilians hostage, the government calls in Lee Marvin and Chuck Norris. The terrorists don't stand a chance. The current trend in Hollywood film-making is serious, serious, serious. Franchises like The Bourne Identity, Nolan's Batman saga and post-Brosnan James Bond are dark and moody. Sure, they're great films, but are they fun? Do you really find yourself cheering and laughing as you watch? I didn't. But I sure did with the Delta Force. There's no way the Delta Force can be taken totally seriously. The Delta Force are basically indestructible and the terrorists unable to hit anything with their hopelessly inadequate machine guns (think the Stormtroopers in Star Wars). Chuck Norris therefore guns, hits and generally blows up hundreds of bad guys without even ruffling his beard.Yes, it's daft. Yes, it's unrealistic. And, yes, it's probably a bit dated and maybe even a little politically incorrect in its representations of certain 'non-western' cultures. But, if you can put all that aside, it's also damn good fun. My one regret is that I watched it alone. It's the perfect movie to invite the guys round and have a few beers to.Seriously, they don't make 'em like they used to. Tragic.

My first Chuck Norris movie review was 1981's An Eye For An Eye: the best movie he did without any facial hair (as I like to call "smooth-faced Norris"). My next was 1982's Forced Vengeance: the best movie he did with just a moustache (as I like to call "moustache-Norris"). My most recent was 1991's The Hit-man: the best movie he did with his signature beard (as I like to call "bearded-Norris"). Now I am doing the best movie he did in any era that surpasses them all: The Delta Force. The Delta Force is one of Norris' best known movies and roles as Major Scott McCoy. The movie also stars many old-time actors such as Lee Marvin, Joey Bishop, Martin Balsam, Robert Forester, George Kennedy and Shelley Winters. These classic stars prevent this from being just another, crappy, ultra-violent action flick. Of course it's cheesy beyond belief and cartoon and very violent, but the successfully stays on the side of fun action classic and does not cross into the realm of stupidity. Chuck Norris does a bad job of acting as usual, but the rest of the cast is good. They save what could have been a stinkfest. They are either over-the-top good, or over- the-top bad. In fact, this is like a real-life cartoon. The Delta Force is about a pair of terrorists who hijack a plane with orders to go to Beirut, then take some to Israel. Unbeknownst to them, there's a ragtag group of American mercenaries that they cannot beat. The movie starts off at more of a serious note with the hijack. It may be a bit cheesy, but it is also serious as mean terrorists threaten to destroy all. It is after the Americans arrive that it becomes a cartoon. The music is nice, the action is fun, and everything is so "all- American and nothing else!" What is there not to love?

The following review will contain spoilers. If you want a cheesy action film from the 80s, then look no further. The Delta Force delivers on so many levels of cheese. Released by Cannon Films. Stars Chuck Norris. Cheesy one liners. Over the top death scenes. And a bad guy that only touches Chuck Norris once in the entire film. If you want pure 80s cheesy action fun, then you have come to the right place. This is my review of The Delta Force. This classic 80s action extravaganza was written by James Bruner and Menahem Golan. Bruner also wrote another classic 80s Chuck Norris action film with Invasion U.S.A. That film is personally my favorite action movie of all time. So I also recommend checking that film out as well. Golan, who also directed this film, is also known for such 80s action films as Over the Top and Bloodspot. The film starts with a little background of what the Delta Force is meant to do. We see Scott McCoy(played by Chuck Norris) trying to save a brother in arms from dying as he is lying in a burning helicopter that seems like it is about to explode. Not only do we see McCoy save the day here, we also see him lift up a Jeep to get the soldier's pinned leg safely out. This is just amazing 80s cheesy fun. The film continues years later as we see Lebanese terrorists hijacking a Boeing 707. This part of the film is fairly long, and could get boring to some. The film mainly picks up with the bigger action scenes with about forty to sixty minutes left. Robert Forster(Abdul) plays a fantastic bad guy, and these slower parts of the film move by nicely because of it. Not only does Chuck Norris and crew save the day but, he does it the only way he knows how. In the most absurd ways possible. Blowing up an entire automobile to kill Abdul, yep that is classic Norris right there. Overall, the story is nothing great or awarding winning but, the story is fun because of the amazing acting and cheesy fun. So Bruner and Golan get high praise for their amazing effort in this film.As I mentioned above the film was also directed by Menahem Golan. Sadly, Golan passed away at the age of 85 just last month(of the time I'm writing this review). He was a legend and helped make so many fun and enjoyable cheesy action films. The action scenes Golan directs are downright amazing. While most of the film is light on action, the last forty to sixty minutes is a high octane joyride filled with amazing action scenes. Chuck Norris flying around on a motorcycle where you can clearly tell it is his stunt double, and of course the classic Chuck Norris roundhouse kick. My favorite kill of the film has to be at the end where Norris blows up the car where Abdul is in. This takes me back to another classic Norris film, Invasion U.S.A., which I will not be reviewing here, just wanted to mention it quickly here in passing. The action is lead by not only the legend Chuck Norris but, another legend as well with Lee Marvin. Marvin doesn't get the big action scenes Norris gets and that is to be expected. Marvin though brings an enjoyable presence to every film he is in, and the same can be said here. This film also stars tons of secondary actors that are widely know even to this day. Some of those are Martin Balsam, Lainie Kazan, George Kennedy, Shelley Winters, and another huge legend, Robert Vaughn. With these amazing cast of secondary actors and having Norris and Marvin in the lead roles, the acting shapes up amazingly. Overall, Galon delivered some memorable action scenes with Chuck Norris, and brought us one heck of a cheesy 80s action movie. One that will never be forgotten. The film was composed by famous composer, Alan Silvestri. Silvestri really hit it big with a film released just a year earlier called, Back to the Future. While the genre and type of score composed in this film are very much different, Silvestri adds so much depth to this film. While I wouldn't call his score cheesy like many other scores in films like this, his score more than gets the job done. When the action picks up you will really get to feel his amazing score shape up. Overall, Silvestri delivers an amazing score that adds some nice depth to the film.In closing, this is simply a classic action film. While it is not my personal Chuck Norris favorite, it is certainly near the top. The film delivers in so many ways in the genre of cheesy 80s action films, that fans of this sub-genre will more than be pleased with this outing.8/10
