The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

Based on a book by Carl Hiaasen, three middle-schoolers pit wits with corrupt politicians, money hungry real estate developers and some local not-too sharp cops. Roy(Logan Lerman)is the new kid in school, moving from Montana to Florida. Roy meets Beatrice(Brie Larson), kind of a tough girl, but really worth knowing. She is trying to help a boy that is going shoeless. Upon following this barefoot boy, they find he may be involved with vandalism at a construction site. When the small group, now friends, discover a burrow of hoot owls being threatened by the new construction crew, it is time to declare war against the people who should know better.The cast includes: Luke Wilson, Tim Blake Nelson, Neil Flynn, Jimmy Buffett, Jessica Cauffel and Robert Wagner.Soundtrack includes: "Floridays" and "Good Guys Win" by Buffett. Along with "Barefootin'" by Alan Jackson with Buffett.

Roy Eberhardt (Logan Lerman) is the new kid in a Florida school and he's getting bullied. Then one day while being bullied, a fast-running bare-footed kid catches his eye. Together the two along with his half-sister Beatrice (Brie Larson) band together to save a burrowing owl habitat from an evil developer.This is a kid movie where the adults are either stupid, evil, or clueless. In some cases, they are all three. Luke Wilson and Tim Blake Nelson really ramp up the stupidity in this film. And Roy's parents (Neil Flynn and Kiersten Warren) aren't much better. It's too bad. The kids were likable enough. If they could limit the silly bullying and the clueless adults, they could have a wonderful little film.

Terrible, terrible movie. Not that the thought behind it was terrible, but the execution was. Yes, kids might like it, but if a grown-up subjects him or herself to this farcical, poorly written, and pitifully acted Movie then you should be looked after in a nice nursing home in years to come.I found a few things to like..um..the kids had a common goal (chasing off the greedy profit-driven corporation..teamwork--working with a hodgepodge of folks usually outside their social caste. But let's be honest, the teenage kid who is "neglected" or "misunderstood" by his parents is pretty lame material. Then pair him up with the "bad boy" and cute little girl and worry about plot development later. 13 year olds breaking into government buildings, vandalizing private property and being lauded as heroes is not cool to most parents. So..the movie just stunk. Watch at your own peril.

I didn't plan to write a comment for this movie, because some scenes are illogical and it is just a plain average movie for kids only.Then I watched the extras on the DVD, in which the actor Cody Linley told us that his hair was darker, they had to dye his hair to blond. He was surprised that it was so blond.That is just so wrong, that is the reason why I am writing this comment.This is not a movie about surfers, the character in which Cody plays doesn't surf in the ocean or swim in the pool. So there is absolutely no reason to dye his hair to blond. In that old high school TV series, "Saved by the Bell", they also dyed Mark-Paul Gosselaar's pure dark hair to blond. This is just plain wrong, the movie and TV makers are still trying to sell this idea that blonds are more attractive than people with dark hair, is that the value that they want to teach the kids? This is a country made of immigrants, I can probably safely say that at least over 70% population don't have blond hair. This is just wrong to dye male actors' hair to blond especially for children movies. How often do you see any blond guys in those crime, gangster movies? Then there is this joke about Roy got his fake name from an old Asian man who was mopping the floor, that just reminded me of another point. Asians live in all major cities in the US, how come there is hardly ever any Asian male children actors in any of the TV shows or movies. There were plenty children in this movie, I personally didn't see any Asian or black kids, not even the extras. Why are the leading actors always have to be white? If they want to teach children about saving animals, how about teaching children equality? Why do they always hire white actors? There were several scenes that don't make sense. For example, how was "Mullet Fingers" able to get a boat and drive that boat all the way to the sea? After all, he was supposed to be homeless.It is wrong to teach children that if you want to save the animals, it is OK to violate laws to destroy other people's properties. In reality, if those kids get caught, they will be punished according to the law.Some of the sceneries are beautiful, such as the sunset, the view of the ocean from the sky.
