It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

I just watched this movie last night and it was one of the most original horror movies i have seen in awhile. Vincent cassell plays the bad guy, Joseph. The movie begins with a nightclub, where a group of young people will meet and mingle. After one of them is kicked out over a fight, the group of 5 who just met each other, will journey to one of their houses in the country.(of course it's the young cute girls house, helping the decision to leave a well lit and bumpin city scene) Once there, a terror slowly begins to unfold. A terror that is rarely seen. The antagonists in this movie are great, with a strong leading role by vincent cassell. Vincent regularly plays bad guys in lots of movies, as he has something dark and solid about him. This time, though, he is a very creepy and awkward freak force of nature. This film is underwhelming yet overwhelming all at the same time in its material. Expected twists become unexpected as the film plays out. Like the box says, "it has to be seen to be believed" Highly recommended dark indie horror at its utmost quality

This is one of the more bizarre movies I've ever seen, and that's saying quite a bit. As the blurb tells us, a group of rough-and-tumble college kids are out clubbing on Christmas Eve when they're persuaded to spend the holiday at the country house of a pretty girl; after getting ejected for a bar fight, they all pile into a car and off they go. Horror movie tropes tell us this isn't going to end well, of course, which is what keeps us at least mildly interested.I won't say much more about the plot, as it's fairly self-explanatory as you watch things unfold (although the writers/directors don't seem to worry too much about making things make sense to the viewers - there's no backstory or explanation about the strange, creepy fringe characters, but perhaps it's not necessary). Vincent Cassel is nearly unrecognizable as Joseph, the insane-right-off-the-bat gardener, especially compared to some of his more recent roles (I'm thinking his suave, sexy ballet master in "Black Swan," or his Russian gangster in "Eastern Promises," for example), and he really makes this movie all on his own. His strange obsession with Bart, one of the college boys, is quite disturbing to watch, especially once we find out what his true intentions really are. You can't help but perk up with interest, dread and morbid fascination every time Crazy Gardener Joseph is on screen. All in all: Not a great movie by any stretch, but passable as a creepy horror film, and Cassel is THE reason to see it. If you're already a fan of his, put this in your rental queue. If you're not, this role may repulse you enough to never want to watch him in anything else!

This movie was hilarious! I loved the characters in this film all with their own goofy, perverted and dumbass college aged personalities. It seemed to me that I laughed throughout most of the film but there was still enough gore and horror to keep me interested in the horror side of it.Another thing I can say about this movie was there was a lot of "WTF!" moments. I also have to add that this movie has the nastiest description of a woman's private parts I have ever heard and still shake my head in disgust and amusement at it even days later.I don't want to go into it too much but this movie has become high up on my list for movies I would recommend to people. It is politically incorrect and has constant references to racism, but its more to add to the uneducated hillbilly type character that plays in the movie. If you haven't seen this, watch it. It is one of the funniest horror films I have ever seen.ZombieSteak.com - Discover a new world of horror films, designed just for you.

Ending my viewings of the French Horror Wave thread movies, this is one I had to be convinced to check out, and it left me pretty confused. If I hadn't read the synopsis on the DVD box, I would have been totally lost as to what the hell the plot was, and only by reading that I connected the dots to a pact with the devil. Nevertheless, Vincent Cassel's performance is the reason to see this movie, because the story even knowing a little about the plot, makes pretty much no sense at all. It's another one of those partyers going to a house in the middle of nowhere, greeted by a crazy family up to no good. The evil smile on Cassel's face throughout the movie is hilarious as is most of the movie. Nothing scary about it, nothing much in the way of gore, but the creepiness factor is pretty high. I don't think there was one death scene in the entire movie, but it makes no difference, because this is cinema of the weird, and you have to just go with it. This is by far my least favorite of the French horror genre, and I could not recommend it to anybody, except maybe Cassel completist, if there are any of those out there.
