This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

After a fantastic, action-packed opening, 'Wonder Woman (2009)' continues to tell its eponymous hero's origin story with a suitably fast pace and refreshing focus on both her Greek god inspired background, with the legends of old being nicely reinterpreted to fit with the characters and world, and her attempts to integrate into modern society with the help of her recent rescuee, who is both the cause of and remedy to much of her disillusionment with the 'world of men'. The fights are epic and exciting, with some brutal and surprising bloodshed compounding their deadly nature. The themes of sexism, gender bias and an otherwise 'man vs woman' mentality are handled, for the most part, incredibly well, woven into the narrative with nuance and poise. The overall piece is an entertaining ride from start to finish that's consistently enjoyable and thematically rich, too, with characters that do their deep comic-book histories justice. It's better than the live-action film, for sure. 7/10

It was pretty easy for me to recognize Nathan Fillion's voice in this. I swear that guy is becoming the new Patton Oswalt or Weird Al Yankovic seeing as how he also did a great voice in the best "Rick And Morty" episode. Anyway, Wonder Woman is actually one of the most prolific superheroes out there, but until recently never had a feature film devoted to her. While not as recognizable as Batman or Superman, she is still a very important character that everyone should be aware of. In the DCAU, she did not have her own animated show, but really did get to shine with episodes focusing on her in the "Justice League" cartoon. It's here that I knew more about her mythology.I don't have much hope for the live-action theatrically released Wonder Woman movie and am perfectly fine if this is the movie that becomes her most famous. We get great set up for her origin story as it begins with her mother, Hippolyta, fighting an army and literally creating her from clay. Probably the most enjoyable thing in the whole movie is the romantic involvement she has with the character Steve voiced by Castle himself, Nathan Fillion. I was first introduced to him as the star of the show "Castle" which I sadly wasn't able to see newer episodes of. The battle scenes in this film are grand and epic. It's hard to do good pacing with a film that's relatively short, but this movie does it perfectly. I was just waiting for Cheetah to appear and for Wonder Woman's name to be mentioned at the end and guess what I got? I guess it's weird watching an animated PG-13 rated movie but it really does earn its rating. And yeah, Wonder Woman herself is quite beautiful. It's just great to see her adjust to the outside world and realize her role she rightfully earned as a protector. We even get to see zombies at the end of the film and although it doesn't quite amount to that much in the long run, you can't argue with Amazonian zombies. Thank you for introducing me and others to the mythology of this classic character. It's the best movie I've seen for Superhero Month and dare I say the best direct to video movie ever! ****

As a self-confessed comic book and animation geek, I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to check out the distaff side of things. I'm used to watching the Superman/Batman/Green Lantern and Justice League guys do their stuff. In other words, before watching Wonder Woman, I wondered if anyone could ever make an animated feature with a female superhero who could hang with the guys.Glad I was wrong, and it was a good thing I gave this animated feature a shot, as Wonder Woman gets a solid treatment from the DC crew and emerges as a powerful warrior (warrioress?) in her own right. The film reprises Wonder Woman's birth, her early years on the hidden island of Themyscira, and her encounter with man once Ares, the god of war, escapes and she is entrusted with the task of bringing him to justice. The film, surprisingly bloody by DC standards at the time it was made, benefits from excellent animation and a strong voice cast. Alfred Molina embodies evil as Ares, while Keri Russell more than holds her own as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, and Nathan Fillion also provides excellent comic timing and support as Steve Rogers. Rosario Dawson as Artemis also scores as does Oliver Platt as Hades in all his gross, dripping, smarmy evil, and really, all the voice parts are handled well.Where it does break down somewhat is the constant battle of the sexes idea. It was made early on in the movie and is repeated multiple times. I think they could have explored the relationship with modern society more instead of harping on the men-are-chauvinist-pigs concept. In spite of that, Wonder Woman delivers on a number of levels and shows that she is not only a vibrant and memorable character, she's also competing with the big boys now and beating them at their own game.A solid and very worthy entry in the animated DC-universe. Worth watching for anyone who's interested in a good story and excellent action.

This movie is an excellent depiction of the world's greatest female super-hero. The movie begins in the past before the Amazons isolated themselves from the world of men and when Hippolyta possessed the Mantle of Wonder Woman, during the battle between the Amazons and the spawns of Ares however Hippolyta defeats Ares and puts him in enchanted chains that only a fellow god. The Amazons then get their home on the beautiful ,tropical island of Theymyscara where they live simple warrior lives. Hippolyta unable to have a child, models one out of sand and clay then the raw power the Olympian gods gives life to the sand creating the baby who would go to be the next Wonder Woman, she grows up to be a prominent warrior who is curious what lay out in "Man's World." Then their world is turned upside down when humorous pilot Steve Trevor crashes on Theymyscara providing a need for a Wonder Woman ambassador to "Man's World" despite wanting to enter the competition Hippolyta forbids Diana from joining the competition ,so she then enters under a combat helmet. She then crushes the other contestants. Proving she is worthy Queen Hippolyta changes her mind giving Diana the costume and equipment to be the next Wonder Woman. Meanwhile Ares escapes bidding to conquer the Gods and destroy the world giving Wonder Woman a world to save along with Steve Trevor. A action packed adventure for any super-hero fan. Lauren Montgomery succeeds again as a director. This movie provides an action -packed adventure and is a must-see!
