The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

If it means anything, my viewing of "Animal House" was of the 'Double Secret Probation Edition', but that sounded more like a slick blurb on the DVD cover than anything else. Well, watching this film for the very first time since it came out, which was forty years ago as I write this, I'm somewhat at a loss as to how to explain it's immense popularity. There's John Belushi's presence of course, he was pretty much at the top of his game in the late Seventies. But any time he's not on screen, the picture simply rambles along with an aimless plot involving Dean Wormer's (John Vernon) attempt to get Delta Tau Chi booted off the campus of Faber College. The whole college/frat house scene seemed a bit anachronistic as depicted for 1962, but then again, I never pledged so maybe I'm missing something. It seems to me the funniest parts of the movie were the ones shown as trailers for the picture back in the day. I particularly recall Belushi's challenge to a 'FOOD FIGHT', but unless I missed something, that food fight scene lasted about as long as it took Bluto Blutarsky (Belushi) to announce it. There was that 'zit' scene too, but that had more to do with gross-out factor than humor.Probably the best parts of the picture for me were those times Otis Day and the Knights hit the screen, especially with their rousing version of 'Shout'. But even then, there was a bit of movie sleight of hand going on, as actor Dewayne Jessie led a fictional band in performing that song, along with Shama Lama Ding Dong. And to top it all off, Jessie was lip synching along to the voice of singer Lloyd Williams. I guess I'll have to stick with the Isley Brothers. Anyway, I'm not here to bash the film because I know it has it's fans, and that's all well and good. But it seems to have had it's day in the sun, and if I were to offer some guidance on viewing the picture today, I'd go with the sage wisdom offered to Flounder by Bluto - "My advice to you is to start drinking heavily".

Animal House is a great movie with a very well written plot and a stellar comedic cast. Being the first of its kind, the film is so iconic that it inspiree comedy films that are still being made today, the frat house, gross out type films that come out continuously now. It has a fun vibe to it throughout and never gets too tied down to its plot, tossing it aside in favour of long, hilarious sequemces. I did feel, however, that the majority of the characters were not established enough. There is really no lroper development given to anyone, which I know waa probably intentional, but it just made it difficult to route for them at times, cause we were not fully aware of who they are as people. The cast is all around terrific and have a great presence in their individual roles. The highlight is, without any doubt, John Belushi, who steals evety scene with his spontaneous, flamboyant energy. The man was clearly a brilliant comedian and it is always a pleasure to watch him onscreen. Great fun from beginning to end. Hilarious and easy to watch, I would certainly recommend Animal House to anyone looking for a good comedy. A college frat house toss aside work in favour of shenanigans. Best Performance: John Belushi

Gun to my head, I don't think I can come up with a better frat movie than "Animal House"; at least none that hold up so well today. It's bledssed with a cast brimming with future stars, John Vernon in one of his best roles, and John Belushi's devilish mugging for the camera. The script doesn't pull any of its punches, even in its anarchic finale. The humor's as low-brow as it gets, wonderfully depraved, and it's just one laugh after another. I love this movie.8/10 Speaking of Belushi, he comes perilously close to stealing the whole thing; even with Tim Matheson and Peter Riegert in the mix.

This movie is probably my favorite film that has ever hit a single screen. The move takes place in the 60s and shows you what college would of been like, and if you were part of the Delta Frat house then you were probably having the best time of your life. Delta is the craziest ferturnity on the campus at Faber College, members of the college even the Dean is trying to do everything in their power to get Delta off campus but they find out after its all said and done that you don't mess with crazy college kids that are just trying to party and have a good time. Throughout the whole movie there is a good variety of music that is played, contains classic love and party songs. Before I watched this movie I was not interested in college one bit but now there is no doubt I will be like John Belushi.
