It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.

I wasn't a huge fan of the original "30 Days of Night" and rated it 5 stars, so this movie which was considerably worst but not the absolute worst movie I've ever seen so I gave it 3 stars. I only watched this because I like Kiele Sanchez and Rhys Coiro and Harold Perrineau too. But this movie was very disappointing. The story was weak, the acting average thanks to poorly-written dialogue and the ending was just ridiculous. The start of the movie in the auditorium with the lights was pretty cool and gave me hope, but then everything else was a complete let down. And, *SPOILER ALERT* the black dude was the first to die! Come on, that's not supposed to happen any more. Killing off that nervous chick who just got on your nerves would have been far better. But really, in the end the sole survivor *SPOILER ALERT* goes back home, reanimates her long-charred husband whom she knows will come back a vampire was just stupid.

This is truly awful. A real insult to the original and the vampire genre. Why does Hollywood insist on making awful sequels to everything? It cant be to make money because they have enough of it. The acting is terrible. The storyline is weak and not very well thought out. So many script problems I will not bother to start describing them. The original was a refreshing piece of filming to the vampire genre. This is god awful sequel is just a another generic attempt to make money and weaken the genre.I wish I could give it a lesser score than 1 out of 10. I have trouble with this sequel, as I do with most sequels, because the inconsistencies (in plot) are just too great. It took about a third of the first movie for me to get used to the vampires basically ripping their victims apart, more zombie-like than vampire. Then, in the sequel, Lilith (obvious reference to the Queen Mother of all demons from Hebrew folklore) is in charge and bathes in blood, making it even less likely that the other vampires would waste that much blood. I know, I'm just too picky. And while Stella was doing voice-overs, she could have explained how the other survivors dealt with the aftermath, thereby filling in the gap, especially with her stepson. It would have taken two or three sentences, there were only like 3 or 4. One last thing, the ending was WAY TOO PREDICTABLE and silly.

As a stand-alone vampire movie, I rate this as 'Fair.' As a sequel to a really well-made, well acted, and scary as s#!t horror film, it fails on every level. I have not read, and have no interest in reading, the graphic novels. Having said that, why (SPOILER ALERT!) would the screenwriter feel the need to kill Stella, and WHY at the hands of Eben? It makes absolutely no sense - Stella deserved better, and the Eben/Stella love story had a perfect, though heart-breaking, ending. I wish I could un-watch this movie. Having said that, the introduction of the "Queen Vampire" really diminished the horror of the apparently random and senseless slaughter of the innocent residents of Barrow. The terror came from not knowing "Why" and not understanding the guttural language of the vampires. With all due respect to the Director, Cast and Crew of "Dark Days," this is a sequel that should not have been made, and lovers of the Original should avoid this at all costs.
