When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

It's great to find out that there are quite a few die hard fans of 'Safe Men' here on IMDb. Where I 'come from', just about nobody gets this (resulting in ridiculous ratings) - I'm not sure it's a Dutch thing or not. The humor just doesn't appeal to many people, it being too corny and 'soft' or something - but if you like clever details and some heartfelt sentiments borderlining on the ridiculous, it's all there (about the genius of raccoons, for instance). For me, it works plenty. And the film has a great cast to boot as well, their crazy parts come completely naturally to them - yes, that's a compliment. Paul Giamatti, Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Lerner and Harvey Fierstein: it's all good.Maybe the ending is a little too low key, but it still fits with rest of the script, which is very much made up of silly, dialogue-driven scenes and has nothing to do with credibility or anything like that. Drink a couple of beers or smoke some pot (if you are in the appropriate country and or state) and just sit back and enjoy...A small 8 out of 10.

Watch this if...you to see a goofy comedy revolving around two guys cracking safes that know nothing about cracking safes. A fairly silly premise, but makes for an entertaining film.Acting/Casting: 7* - Sam Rockwell and Steve Zahn are great in the lead roles and have great chemistry together. The supporting cast is very strong as well and the group provides plenty of comedy.Directing/Cinematography/Technical: 6* - From start to finish, the movie has a nice, entertaining pace that makes for a easy watch. Nothing extraordinary here and nothing really bad to say about the film.Plot/Characters: 5* - Again, the plot is blatantly goofy and does a good job being just that. It is more comedy than heist, but has a nice blend of both.Entertainment Value: 6* - It is a fun watch and has a really nice pace to it. I would recommend to anyone who wants to see a lighthearted heist film.My Score: 7+6+5+6 = 24/4 = 6.0 Email your thoughts to [email protected]

If you like extremely witty dialog humor and situational comedy then this is certainly the movie for you. This one requires at least four viewings to catch all the funny little lines. I do not collect movies. There are very few I care to watch more than once or twice. However, I own this one and have watched it about 25 times. I love turning friends/family onto it. Haven't had a "rejection" yet! Extremely quotable movie. It is no wonder that the main actors as well as the writer/director in this Indie film all have major careers in Hollywood now. If you like gag humor and think "That 70's Show" is funny... stay away from this one... you won't get it.

When a movie has so much good natured humor and generally a lot of heart one can forgive anything. While it has extremely low production values and obviously made on an equally low budget, the sheer fun of it all makes this a movie that many have great affection for. Sam Rockwell's well proven off kilter charm is used to great effect. He's paired beautifully with Steve Zahn as the pitiful singing duo coerced into a life of crime. They are supported by a number of equally engaging characters such as Michael Lerner's overbearing Jewish mobster, Mark Ruffalo's soft hearted safe cracker and best of all Paul Giamatti's "Veal Chop". Giamatti is hilarious as well as touching as the mobster's incapable lackey."Safe Men" is an affectionate ode to deluded losers. These characters are losers simply because they are desperately trying to be something they are clearly not cut out for. They are basically a bunch of good guys on the wrong track. Lerner's gangster threatens all sorts of mean acts, but ultimately just wants to give a big hug to all. Zahn's character has a strong inkling something is amiss when after years of trying to hit the big time they are playing to a very silent senior citizen audience. Rockwell, the king of deluded losers, tries to placate him with the explanation that it's a Polish custom to show appreciation by remaining silent. Maybe it appeals to the delusions that most of us at some point or another are subject to. Whatever; this may be a small, slight movie, but its an immensely enjoyable one.
