In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

Bad Boys (no, not the Michael Bay 1995 film), is an underrated prison drama that is very interesting and entertaining. No it's not Shawshank Redemption, but it doesn't have to be. This film has it's own charms and it's almost relatable. We have come to care about all the juveniles in the film. While we are not sympathetic to their actions, we come to see that many of the people do have good sides. That being said, this drama becomes predictable at certain moments, but the execution of the film is flawless so we have come to forgive these predictable moments.Rick Rosenthal's film is about a thug named O'Brien who has been sentenced to a juvenile prison after a robbery of a drug dealer goes wrong and results in the death of more than one person. O'Brien quickly rises in the juvenile system, but everything will change when the fore-mentioned drug dealer is sentenced to the same ward at the juvenile prison. This is the film that gave Sean Penn his excellent career. Sean Penn was excellent as O'Brien and he gave such a fierce, commanding performance. We also get some great supporting turns by unknowns. Reni Santoni does a great job as the strict, but fair counselor. O'Brien's bunkmate played by Eric Gurry was excellent as well.Overall, Bad Boys in a criminally underseen film that is powerful to watch as we see the rehabilitation of a boy who may learned from his mistakes. It gets predictable in the final half, but it still is really great to watch since it was firmly executed. This is one underrated prison film that lives on Sean Penn's majestic performance. I rate this film 9/10.

Bad boys is a great movie. The plot of this movie is fantastic and it is basically all about revenge. Mick obrein accidentally kills poacos younger brother and is sent to a correctional facility for young offenders and as revenge paco then rapes Obreins girlfriend while he is inside and gets sent to the same correctional facility and in the end one of them gets a measure revenge on the other. I am afraid you are going to have to watch the movie to find out who it is. This movie is mainly about drama but offers a slight comical side as well with my favorite character Horowittz. Over all this movie is a must see and has many great actors I really enjoyed watching this movie from start to finish.

This is an uncompromising Gang/Prison/Troubled Teen Movie that is high on realism and told in a straightforward, gritty non-sensationalistic way that benefits its subject matter. A well Acted Movie from all involved with a solidifying "take me serious as an Actor and not just an angst ridden James Dean wannabe", Sean Penn.It is, at times, a brutal Film filled with fights and killings that are counterpointed with unexpected and touching Scenes that make this a truly fulfilled experience. Nothing here is overstated, hyped, or completely Stereotypical. These seem like real Bad Boys placed in a bad placed with bad things always lurking around the corner. The Wardens or Overseers and Counselors here are also played realistically and are as multidimensional as their Boys.Overall this is an underrated Film and almost forgotten and without Sean Penn in the Lead it would have been a neglected little Sleeper. The Movie is not a very pleasurable experience, just like Prison.

Bad Boys, starring Sean Penn as Mick O'Brien and Esai Morales as Paco Moreno, is one of the most entertaining and disturbing movies ever. But to focus on the two leads is unfair to the host of other actors who put in magnificent performances, particularly actor Eric Gurry as Barry Horowitz.Teen Mick O'Brien is a vicious gangster punk. When one of his armed robbery schemes goes awry, a robbery of a drug deal involving Paco Moreno, he unintentionally runs down and kills Moreno's little brother, and ends up in juvenile prison. His cell mate is Horowitz. After an awkward start they become close friends and confidantes. Horowitz, who has been there a while, teaches O'Brien the ropes. Meanwhile prison guard and counselor Ramon Herrera (actor Reni Santoni) wants to set Mick on the right path, but this is not an easy task. The prison officials have given authority over other prisoners to two tough inmates, cell mates Viking (actor Clancy Brown) and Tweety (actor Robert Lee Rush), who get to hand out prison work assignments, receive the profits from cigarette sales, etc. They immediately come into conflict with O'Brien and Horowitz. O'Brien manages to usurp their position of authority, leading to further conflicts. O'Brien's toughness and street smarts make him the winner time and again. The character of Horowitz, a young Jewish boy who came to juvey after a botched revenge plot, is worth a whole review by itself. What a shame that this magnificent actor, Eric Gurry, has appeared in relatively few films. Though he is small and weak and would appear to be of little help in a fight, his wit, dogged determination and superior intelligence help him to survive in this environment where he is very out of place. Despite being nothing like the other prisoners, as the film progresses we learn that he has strong criminal tendencies and prison is probably where he belongs.Moreno, seeking revenge on O'Brien, beats and rapes O'Brien's girlfriend (actress Ally Sheedy) so he can go to prison and get even. Tweety is paroled, and Moreno moves in as Viking's roommate. These kindred spirits promptly begin plotting against O'Brien.Circumstances take both Viking and Horowitz out of the picture, leaving Moreno and O'Brien to face a final showdown alone.
