After Dick Harper loses his job at Globodyne in an Enron-esque collapse, he and his wife, Jane, turn to crime in order to handle the massive debt they now face. Two intelligent people, Dick and Jane actually get pretty good at robbing people and even enjoy it -- but they have second thoughts when they're reminded that crime can hurt innocent people. When the couple hears that Globodyne boss Jack McCallister actually swindled the company, they plot revenge.

It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Remember when Jim Carrey's manic energy was funny? Been a long time, right? Remember when Judd Apatow's writing was good? Me, neither. Remember when you just couldn't wait to go see the latest Tea Leoni movie? That never happened. So of course you combine all 3 and make Hollywood magic, right? Well, no. Maybe Apatow pawned this one off on an intern and slapped his name on it, like engineers do. Carrey's every move reeks of career desperation. Leoni is likable enough. She and Jennifer Aniston could switch roles in every movie either one has ever made and nobody would notice.

This one's pretty good. It's no comedy classic, but it holds up well, and delivers. The situation depicted as the main narrative in itself is funny enough, the acting's good, there's a bit of a social commentary on the frailty of capitalist America but carried out humorously...The only thing is of course as always with this sort of fairly forgettable bit of cinema is the plot is never original enough to stick with people, and that the developments are just too ambitious and seem half-thought out, almost rushed in parts, but overall that part still manages about well enough. It's pretty good. It's fun, pretty funny at times, and it works at what it does.

Fun with Dick and Jane is a remake of the 1977 comedy of the same title. It stars Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni as Dick and Jane Harper, an upper- middle-class couple who resort to robbery after the company for which Dick works goes bankrupt. Alec Baldwin, Richard Jenkins, Angie Harmon, John Michael Higgins, Richard Burgi, Carlos Jacott, Gloria Garayua and Stephnie Weir also star in supporting roles. It was written by Judd Apatow and directed by Dean Parisot.Dick Harper and his wife, Jane, would seem to have it made considering that Dick has a high-paying job, they live in an expensive house in the suburbs, they have two luxury cars in the driveway, and a housekeeper, Blanca to help look after their son, Billy. But Dick and Jane's fairy- tale life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been using unscrupulous accounting methods to disguise the fact they've been losing money hand over fist, and he has been made the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Suddenly flat broke, they must find a new way to support their lavish lifestyle, and in time they resort to criminal activities.Remakes are always a gamble, so it's a pleasant surprise that the movie pays off with unexpected dividends. It's as entertaining as the original starring George Segal and Jane Fonda, and the teaming of Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni makes this a safe bet for comedy fans. But the slapstick screenplay fails to achieve its fullest potential. It starts off silly, soon becomes funny and then skyrockets into irrepressible hilarity. But unfortunately,it does not sustain a consistent tone.

I'd like to share an experience I'd while watching this movie yesterday. I'd just come back from office, flopped on the bed and took out my shoes while flipping channels on the TV at same time. Just then, one of the channels began to air Fun with Dick & Jane. The moment I saw the opening rolls showing Jim Carrey sprinting out of his house, I became rooted to my bed. He's one of my all-time fave actors.Throughout the 90mins(the channel didn't even give an ad break), I didn't move an inch, not even an inch! I didn't even want to change out of my office wear fearing that I might lose even a small moment of comedy from Carrey or Tea Leoni. That's how entertained I was with this movie. So many funny scenes of Carrey and Leoni that I can't pick a favorite really. Both give a great performance. Didn't realise that Tea Leoni could pack so much fun in her, after watching her very serious character in Deep Impact(1998). Every other cast here were just kinda normal supporting actors for these two guys, including "The Shadow" Alec Baldwin. Ya, he was just a shadow here too :-) Maybe the ending could have been a bit more lively. I felt the state of shock that Alec Baldwin's character goes through in the end wasn't portrayed convincingly. The whole shot that included Baldwin, Carrey, Leoni, the media & crowd of others felt a bit weak to me.Verdict: Still, a great comedy, great direction, great performances. That's it, review over!
