Tammy (2014)
For Tammy, a burger-joint employee, a bad day keeps getting worse. She wrecks her car, loses her job and finds that her husband has been unfaithful. It's time for Tammy to hit the road, but without money or transportation, her options are limited. Her only choice is a road trip with her hard-drinking grandmother, Pearl, who has a car, cash and an itch to see Niagara Falls. It's not the escape Tammy had in mind, but it may be what she needs.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
All these negative reviews?? I love watching this movie it made me laugh. It was a feel good movie.
I do believe that Melissa McCarthy is a good and funny actress but she seems to just be playing the same thing over and over lately and Tammy is no different.The cast is top notch with Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Allison Janney, Dan Aykroyd, Toni Collette and Sandra Oh joining McCarthy but that still doesn't help it from being a crap movie!There are some laughs but they are easily forgettable, the story is predictable and the movie as a whole is only marginally better than Identity Thief.Watched once but will never watch again.
I loved this and I (apparently) love Melissa McCarthy, but my favourite was Kathy Bates. For me this movie classifies as a "stupid comedy" (my favourite is Dodgeball) and within this "genre" I found it to be very enjoyable. The film's a mess, everyone in it is a mess, but somehow the whole thing works. It's crazy, it's ridiculous, it's predictable and sloppy, but I love it! I also think that McCarthy and Sarandon have great chemistry - unlike basically everyone else who watched this movie it would seem - and I really enjoyed how this comedy focused on interesting women for once. Granted it's not perfect, but it's definitely one for the re-watch folder for me.
I have liked Melissa McCarthy's work on SNL and in movies like Bridesmaids and This is 40, and I hoped this film would showcase that hilarious, wild side of the characters she plays. But there are absolutely no redeeming qualities in this mess. The most interesting aspect of it is to consider how the hell they were able to get this impressive cast to agree to participate in this dumpster fire of a film. My theory: people thought this would be Melissa McCarthy's "Tommy Boy." It isn't. Susan Sarandon was horribly miscast as the irreverent grandma. Another fun game to play is to try to articulate the plot of this movie. The main character and her drunk grandmother stumble from one boring, unfunny interaction to the next. The film is completely unable to get us to care about Tammy. She is similar to such a long list of down-and-out movie characters, yet it's hard to care whether she finds redemption, love, happiness... George Lucas writes better love scenes than you'll see in this movie. Overall I'd say that literally any activity is a better investment of time than watching this movie.
