Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Originally made in 1978 and directed by Meir Zarchi the remake takes the original to task. Much of the plot and story stay right on cue with characters relatively the same. A young, albeit plain looking woman retreats to the woods and isolates herself in a cabin to write a novel. She revels in the silence of being alone and one with the woods. She soon realizes she is anything but alone. Enter some town folk who are hellbent on having a good time and savagely rape her repeatedly. The act is quite graphic and definitely not for young viewers or those that are squeamish. The film pushes the boundaries of the torture and rape scenes, this is meant to do that and stun the audience. The woman does not go quietly, she comes back and with revenge and vengeance fueling her. I liked the cinematography, the story and Jennifer (Sarah Burton), the other characters did have their flaws but overall the fil keeps you interested. I did give it a 7 for it's screenplay, being a remake and good plotlines.

Honestly, I'm not sure how to wrap my thoughts around this and cohesively write a review. Everything about this film, is just wrong. But that's the point. Does that necessarily make it a good film? Perhaps, perhaps not. A young woman stays in a remote cabin where she is terrorised and ambushed by a group of men (including the local sheriff). Presumed missing, she returns to seek justice by her own twisted methods. "Twisted" is gently describing this harrowing story. Simply put, this is disgusting. Two horrific rape scenes, elaborate torture set pieces and an eye wincing amount of gore. Clearly it was going for the shock factor, to which it succeeds. Hands down, I've not seen anything quite like this. The amount of comments I was making throughout its runtime..."seriously!? You're going to rape her again!?", "Oh she's going to do it...oh ohhhh...OHHH she did it!!" and "Revenge is a dish best served cold, even if it is a shotgun up the bum!". I'm not a huge fan of the "torture" sub-genre, I believe it is rather divisive but I can see its appeal to genre enthusiasts. However, making something shocking just so that it is memorable and intimidating doesn't make a good "film". You have to encompass every aspect. At the end of the day, it is a glorified B-Movie about revenge. I'll give credit to Sarah Butler, it cannot have been easy to film certain scenes and I thought she did pretty well. Everyone else could've been replaced and it wouldn't have made a difference. The second act was a slog, the interval where we wait for her to reappear seemed to go on forever. She then all of a sudden becomes an expert at torture, I mean some of those contraptions like the bath filled with lye were just too elaborate. Don't get me started on why she would even stay in that cabin alone anyway! Did we need a remake of the 1978 cult film? Who knows, but we've got one and it is brutally savage. Not necessarily my type of genre, but I can appreciate the fan base for these.

I like the revenge/horror genre as much as anyone but this movie is totally forgettable. The acting and the writing are pretty bad. Every situation is foreseeable, over-exaggerated and nothing unexpected ever happens. The first part of the movie, is in my opinion the least mediocre one even though it's full of clichés, it is still watchable through and through and even somewhat entertaining with no real boring parts. However the second part, the revenge one, isn't boring either but it is where all the inconsistencies, clichés and absurd situations really start to show off. Just to list a few : It was obvious the woman was going to jump in the river and try to disappear in the muddy waters, how they just didn't see it coming is beyond me. Then she reappears somewhere between a month or a few years later (it is unclear when exactly) and starts knocking out her rapists with a baseball bat and a tire iron. This is the usual cliché you'd see in every 80's action movie : Hit a bad guy on the head to knock him out for a while... "He will -always- wake up later...".Except that in really it does rarely work like that. Chance are, if you hit someone with a baseball bat to the head, he's never gonna wake up or if you miss your swing or don't hit it the right way (which is very likely if you're a woman vs 4 big guys) he's not even gonna get knocked out. The middle ground "knock-out effect" is extremely hard to obtain consistently especially with a baseball bat and a tire iron which are gonna brake bones and leave some serious injuries or just do very little damage if the guy you're targeting starts walking towards you with his hands in guard, reducing your momentum and swing distance. This was never though of in 80's movies and still isn't, worst part is that a girl has to wield these kinds of weapon makes it even less believable... I would have believed it if she went for shooting tranquilizer darts while waiting from a safe distance, or if she'd laced their food with drugs... But this frail woman who KO's all those big guys ? Sorry, not buying it for a second. To me, the most important part of a story like that is that it has to believable. But this one, despite being watchable, just isn't.

I Spit on Your Grave (2010) Starring:Sarah Butler,Daniel Franzese, Chad Lindberg,Jeff Branson,Rodney Eastman,Andrew Howard, Tracey Walter,Mollie Milligan, and Saxon Sharbino Directed by Steven R. Monroe Review ITS DATE NIGHT This of course is the remake of the 1970's exploitation film that for reasons I don't know has a cult following. The Film is about a young female writer who is raped in the woods by a couple of hillbillies and is left for dead. However she survives and exacts her revenge by finding sick, twisted and prevented ways in killing them. And I got to say I hated every second of this film. In this remake less time is devoted to her revenge then it is too, verbal, psychological and physical abuse.People give this film credit for having great female empowerment. News flash dummies these films are pure exploitation, why do you encourage female empowerment cause she kills them all in the end, bull. They constantly show this poor woman being raped by hillbillies. it's as stupid as it is sickening. The fact that she gets revenge later in the film does not encourage female empowerment,it just shows us that in order for this film to have a plot in motion it had to constantly show a woman being brutally raped and beaten so she could get to them in a way that's just as sick. He is just afraid of them when she kill as she was when they raped her,she kills them out of fear in what sick twisted world could you call that female empowerment. The tag-line for the film is just as tasteless, the tag-line is ITS DATE NIGHT,its date night, yeah guys I may have never had one but if you take your girlfriend to see this they will break up with you the before it's over. I think a better tag-line would have been you will never be more ashamed to have a dick. The shots are lazy and hack, the actors are not only bad but should all be ashamed of themselves as well. Every second, every inch, every frame of this GODAWFUL movie was assening and made me want to shower ten times. All the brutal and rape in the film is completely unnecessary. Why was this movie made? WHEN YOU HAVE TO SHOW A WOMAN BEING RAPED JUST TO MAKE A POINT GO SCREW YOURSELVES AND THIS MOVIE! I give this piece of ass a half out of five.
