Jack is a children's author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his big break rapidly turns into his big breakdown, as Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

It's brilliant. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I don't write reviews of films, but the overall rating of this film has been pissing me off for years, so I thought I would let my voice be heard. I understand why some would not enjoy watching this film. It's morbid. It's strange and unconventional. It's grotesque, but charmingly grotesque? It's also funny, kinda silly, exciting, and a little frightening. So, you see, it's brilliant. It has all you need. Or, at least, it has what I need. I don't know what that says about me, but I don't care. I likes what I likes. The set design (if that's what it is called), particularity of the apartment, is fantastic. It's dark and magical. I pause the film so I can peep the little details. And there are so many interesting details to take in. I'd live in that freakish set of rooms. I'd clean up a bit, bit I could be very happy there. The lighting really adds to the ambience as well. Just a really cool feel to the film. I basically watch anything with Simon Pegg in it because he brings me joy. He makes me happy. Spaced helps me sleep because of the comfort it brings to me - like a child's favorite blanket or stuffed animal. Enough about that though. A good portion of the movie is like a one man show, which, in my opinion, is lovely. I could have watched an entire movie of Pegg just wandering around his apartment, all paranoid and freaked out. So, if you love Simon Pegg and enjoy morbid yet amusing stories, you will probably like this film. Give it a go and keep your mind open.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything gives us Jack. And Jack is a hilariously exaggerated glimpse into the life of a writer who has fallen into the pit of obsession. Like they tend to do. Murder? Phobias? Knife wielding? Little accidents with glue and stoves? Tighty whities? Please!Very British, funny, and oddly relatable.

A man lives isolated in his house because he has many phobias that prevent his from leaving his apartment. But he is now forced to conquer his fear and go to a launderette to wash his dirty clothes and by mistake he is confused with a killer and a maniac cop takes him and a girl prisoner in a basement. Now he must use his talent as a writer to get away with life from the hands of a madman. When you see a movie with Simon Pegg in the main role you normally expect for a comedy but I merely smile a couple of time during the film and only for the small black humor in it.It has a weird vibe in it also the character situations are strange, also his messy look, in fact the whole thing is just creepy and unique. For his performance SP deserves a price for showing his talent not only as a comedy actor and he proves that he is able to play a more challenging part; and he truly did a good job.

If you notice the technical aspects of the movie then its a pretty good movie, the cinematography, back-ground music, the lighting and especially Simon Pegg's acting all add up to the atmosphere, but unfortunately all these things just end up looking like gimmicks in the end, because there is hardly anything concrete in the script to back these elements.Simon Pegg as usual is brilliant, he basically carries the whole film on his shoulders, but the remainder of the cast just don't look the part.At its core this movie has a novel idea, but the director didn't have any clear vision, in terms of his story narration.I am a big Simon Pegg fan, but even then... this one was a hugely disappointing affair, you could easily give it a miss... still if you have to, then watch it for Pegg's acting because there isn't much else, to right home about.
