Boogie Nights (1997)

Such a frustrating disappointment

Excellent, Without a doubt!!

I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

When l watched this movie on first time at HBO l was frightened about so daring subject on a movie,retelling the early years of porn industry and how it worked in those days,the director got put a perfect portrait of late 70' and next decade about to come which this kind of industry has a boom after VCR for home videos,all casting are colorful,but two characters were fantastic Diggler and Jack Horner,in the aftermatch Burt Reynolds has a revival of his career,Jeff Lynne was scared about ELO's Livin' Thing was set to movie soundtrack without his permission,but was convinced about the movie didn't was a porn movie anyway!!!Resume:First watch: 2000 / How many: 3 / Source: Cable TV-DVD / Rating: 8.5

I can watch this movie so many times and not get sick of it. One of my faves of all time, great characters and character development.

Paul Thomas Anderson directed his second feature film called Boogie Nights, at twenty seven years old. This is really something, because from a technical point of view, everything is well-put together. The photography, scenery and lead actors are all great. Even though, the film's running time is almost three hours, the deep development of the characters and the clever plot gives more and more tension to the viewer. The editing of the movie but the story as well, is a mature look on a world which is unacceptable and offensive for many people. You can decide to not judge the strange family of Dirk Diggler but familiarize with them, even like them and maybe, try to understand them. This film refers to the 70s and 80s when the industry of porn was still evolving fast, when film was replaced from videotapes and when people used to watch soft porn movies in public theaters. Even if the last half of the movie is more violent and dramatic, the movie keeps a balance between the possibility of drama and the option of acceptance and conscience.

Boogie Nights (1997) is a pretty famous film. It received a lot of praise, including many positive reviews and major award recognition like the golden globes and the Oscars. This is also the film that credited with jump starting Mark Wahlberg's Hollywood career. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Don Cheadle. The acting from every one of the cast members is spot on, great performances all around. I especially liked Moore, Wahlberg, and Reynolds. Don't get me wrong, everyone else is still very good, but those three just really shined in their individual roles, enough so for Moore and Reynolds to get academy award nominations and Wahlberg to be thrust into a very successful Hollywood acting career. Boogie Nights is all about the pornography industry, well actually its more about these specifics people in the pornography industry, and how it affects their lives. I liked how the movie handled the individual lives of each character, they really gave ample amount of time to every persons storyline. The dialogue is written in a way that pulls you in and keeps you engaged. I wouldn't say that Boogie Nights is a 10/10 or that it's absolutely perfect, but it is a very well made film that deserves a watch. 8/10.
