Construction company owner John Matthews learns that his estranged son, Jason, has been arrested for drug trafficking. Facing an unjust prison sentence for a first time offender courtesy of mandatory minimum sentence laws, Jason has nothing to offer for leniency in good conscience. Desperately, John convinces the DEA and the opportunistic DA Joanne Keeghan to let him go undercover to help make arrests big enough to free his son in return. With the unwitting help of an ex-con employee, John enters the narcotics underworld where every move could be his last in an operation that will demand all his resources, wits and courage to survive.

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

I am not sure if certain details within this film are completely accurate. It is a story at the end of the day... but this is thrilling and chilling at the same time. The whole film is dark, serious and chilling but the intensity mounts at points in a way that is extremely effective. It is not just the action scenes. I really have to reconsider the acting talent of Dwayne Johnson. He has come along way from the over-the- top, silly wrestling acting. He is up there with some of the best. I am not messing around.I do not think that it is so much a moralizing story as it is a people story. It is the intensity between the people that matters. I do not subscribe to the idea of simple "black and white"/"good and evil" type mentality. The story is balanced enough to not show this kind of reality. It does, however, manage to show some extremely dark gray and light gray to good effect though.Great job!

Apparently, that's the question you need to ask yourself before watching this. There are mixed reviews about 'Snitch' and whether they're good or bad seem to depend on how much you like the actor (now better known as Dwayne Johnson). Yes, he didn't start out as an actor, instead he was a wrestler. However, after numerous films of various genres, the jury is still out as to whether or not he can actually act. If you think he can, you'll probably like this. If you think he can't, probably best to steer clear. Here, Rock Johnson plays a father whose estranged son is convicted of a drugs offence and so he has to help out the authorities bring the culprits to justice in order to get his son's sentence reduced. If you've seen any of Dwayne Rock's other movies then you'll probably expect a fair amount of action and fighting. However, if that's what you're looking for then you'll probably be sorely disappointed. Here, there's more to do with drama and tension than all out scrapping. And, I think it worked. There are plenty of pretty tense scenes when you will be wondering whether someone major is going to go wrong. All the characters are good - yes, The Johnson may not be the most accomplished actor, but he's not having to recite Shakespeare here, merely being a tough father interacting with various drugs cartels - a task which I think he's more than capable of pulling off. Plus you have Susan Sarandon - an actress who you might not normally expect to star opposite The Dwayne.Snitch does have a bit of a 'made for TV' feel about it, but its A-list cast elevates it to something worth watching, which it is. Don't expect action, just tension. Also... it's apparently based on a true story. But then I've heard that before about Hollywood films, so I just look at it as some fun fiction.

People seem more interested in his voice and discussing if the character playing his son was his real son, and how that came to be.Take a look at takepart.com/snitch - for me as a non US citizen I sort of got the feeling that the law is a bit unjust to some people. I am not saying there should not be taken action on those doing a criminal offense. But like the son in this movie, who received an package with a tracking device and could get 10 years for that. Is this how it really works, and how is that preventive and also how is that sentence justified?Just saying.Movie wasn't a top notch one, if we are to discuss that fact, but it was better than Peter Pan (that made me so sleepy).OK acting here and there, so I don't feel like I wasted my time seeing it.

If you had seen the plot of Snitch prior to watching it, I'm sure you were like "great, I have seen this film a thousand times before." Well, now that we agreed how generic the plot is, now I can mention how awesome this film is. Snitch does an effective job of keeping us thinking throughout and there are some clever plot twists hidden in the film. This film is well-acted and it scores bonus points being based on a true story. But this isn't that action film you're expecting, it's a thriller that take it's time to tell the story.Ric Roman Waugh's film is about a father named John Matthews whose son was sentenced to federal prison because of some idiotic drug deals. In order to get his son a lighter sentence, Matthews agrees to go undercover for the DEA. But as he goes in deeper and deeper, it becomes harder and harder to protect his identity. This is by far Dwayne Johnson's best role. From his role in 2002's The Scorpion King to present, he has truly matured as an actor. He has changed so dramatically and I would have never thought he would be effective in a film like this. No one could have been better than Dwayne here. Barry Pepper and his unfortunate beard does a great job here. Susan Sarandon also does a wonderful job as the U.S District Attorney.Overall, Snitch is a great thriller that is based off fact. Apparently, people can go undercover and rat out other drug dealers in order for lighter prison terms. This film may stretch it's plausibility just a little bit, but this is a movie so that is forgiven. There is some action here, but if you're looking for an adrenaline rush, you should look elsewhere. I rate this film 9/10.
