Johnny Knoxville and his band of maniacs perform a variety of stunts and gross-out gags on the big screen for the first time. They wander around Japan in panda outfits, wreak havoc on a once civilized golf course, they even do stunts involving LIVE alligators, and so on.

Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

Jackass: The Movie (2002): Dir: Jeff Tremaine / Cast: Johnny Knoxville, Steve O, Jason "Wee Man" Acuna, Chris Pontius, Bam Margera: Product of M-T.V. with a group acting out bizarre stunts to the appeal of our mischievous level in younger years. Pure spectacle without plot yet the concept has appeal. Its structure is a series of stunts all separated by a fading screen. We witness urination on a snow cone before it is digested. Other stunts include smash up derby with rental cars, golf cart wars, a boxing fight within a department store. One of the guys has a bowel movement in his pants before finishing in a brand new toilet. This is witness by shocked employees. There is an X-ray that reveals a toy car in someone's anal track. There is tight rope walking above a pit of alligators. And finally there is an electric shock treatment applied to the penis. Director Jeff Tremaine films it like a bad documentary, which works for the humour element. Among the crusade that perform these acts are Johnny Knoxville, Steve O, Jason "Wee Man" Acuna, Bam Margera, and Chris Pontius who catch our attention despite our urge to resist. They tap into that willing urge to sin like the child wondering if he can obtain the cookie from the cookie jar without getting caught. Pointless wretch aimed at the wrong audience. As if there is actually a right audience for this sort of thing. Score: 7 / 10

Well, I waited 10 years to finally watch this, and being 71, it was not likely that I would find it hilarious, but it was far less funny than I thought it would be. Aside from the opening car-rental skit and the golf course skit, I never "lol"ed. Before anyone thinks I'm just too old, let me say I found (and still do) "The Groove Tube", "Dumb and Dumber", "Airplane", "Something About Mary", "The Meaning of Life", and "Top Secret", intermittently extremely funny, and I was in a frat in college for a couple of years. But I have never found people getting hurt hilarious, either accidentally or on purpose, which accounts for much of the "humor" of this piece of junk. This was ultimately just a bunch of drunk-acting frat boys doing stupid pranks on each other or unsuspecting strangers. Kind of an elaborate version of putting a whoopee-cushion under an unsuspecting visitor and laughing your head off when the noise goes off. Perfect if your sense of humor is stunted at about age 12 or 13. It is a sad commentary on our society that late teens (mostly males) are so bored and so jaded and so immature that something like this can pass as great entertainment and spawn a number of sequels. Pathetic! Update: Surprisingly, I found "Bad Grandpa", by the same production crew, hilarious, which shows that you never can tell.

This is one of those films where people will either love it or hate it, I love it. It's not a good film to review simply because it really cannot be classified as a cinematic film. It's a social film, social in the sense that you can watch it with a bunch of friends and laugh and forget about the world for a few hours to just laugh at sheer stupidity.Jackass the Movie is sheer stupidity but it's not a bad film. It's always nice seeing a bunch of close friends laugh with each other despite risking their lives in the most ludicrous ways whilst doing so. I can't imagine many people over the age of 40 liking this film because it can be extremely vulgar in some parts and quite gruesome in others. For younger people it's seeing people do things that you wouldn't dare do plus some things you've always wanted to do. There are some genuine laugh-out-loud moments in this film which is why I love it so much. The layout of the film is very simple but very effective, the music used can even add extra humour to some parts which shows that despite the content of this film being silly, these guys do know a thing or two about film. I would recommend this film if you're not wanting cinematic awe, if you're just wanting a laugh, plain and simple. Do not watch this film if you do not have a strong stomach or do not approve of unnecessary vulgarity.

Jackass: The Movie might just be the best film ever made. Hear me out. Forget about aesthetics or narrative, if one were to measure a movie's success purely by second-for-second entertainment value, then Johnny Knoxville and Co win hands - and trousers - down. This is a film, after all, where a man places a toy car in a condom and buries it in his rectum (then visits a radiologist complaining of bowel pains). Another clamps baby alligators on his nipples. Another, very simply, just poos himself. For laffs. To essentially stimulate the part of the brain that lights up when John Belushi crushes a beer can on his head in Animal House. Taken together with the sequel, it's around 3 hours of deranged brilliance you should never attempt at home. Anti-PC power: They're only hurting themselves, so oddly low.Vicar-baiting potential: 80. Scat-factor: Deep red.Blasphemy/sacrilege/profanity: Oh, a lot.
