Sorry, this movie sucks
Good concept, poorly executed.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
This films is like no other that I've seen about World War, even though is not realistic as the other films tried to be that's is not a big deal, the BIG deal we can see in the film is how in 1940 Americans didn't know how dangerous Hitler was, they obviously saw him as crazy man but they were ignorant of the extent of Hitler's Atrocities. It's fascinating to see how in the final scene of the film, Charles Chaplin realizes that war was coming and Hitler was no joke, so he decides to write the final speech where he tries really hard to get a peace message to the world, one message that nazis and Germans could ear too, he almost begs for humanity to see the world, one world that was rotting. It's mind blowing how the speech can inspire even now in 2018, Charles Chaplin would be immortal for that.
It is supposed to be such a great movie, but I didn't like it. There is no humour that appeals, it is all too weak. The only good thing about it was the speech the jewish barber made in the end.
THE GREAT DICTATOR is well-regarded as Charlie Chaplin's best movie and it's easy to see why. This is the film in which he mercilessly satirises Adolf Hitler, then at the peak of his ascendancy, while also exploring the persecution of the Jews under the Nazi regime. It's all disguised as another country and regime but we know it's Hitler that Chaplin is taking the mickey out of. It's a broad, character-based comedy all right, but deals with huge and pressing themes, and Chaplin deserves kudos for being the little man who stood up to a tyrant.
This is Chaplin's best movie in my opinion. The Great Dictator is a great comedic drama, with some excellent universal messages, which is delivered in the best ever speech on the silver screen. It is without a doubt one of the best satirical movies I have seen, and the themes the movie deals with is still relevant to this day. This movie is an immortal classic!
